Holidays in Zakynthos
Zakynthos at a glance:- Beautiful beaches
- Picturesque
- Historical interest
The most southern island in the Ionian group, Zakynthos, also known as Zante, ranges from mountainous landscapes in the north to gentle hills and flat countryside in the south. Green valleys, lush picturesque countryside and golden sandy beaches fringed with crystal clear waters, entice holiday makers year after year. Zante has been colourfully billed as 'the green island of poetry, song and love', mainly because it was the home of Dionysios Solomos, who wrote the Greek national anthem, 'The hymn to liberty'. Zante town is reminiscent of Venice with its historic St Mark's Square and Solomos Square, lined by reconstructed neo-classical buildings. The picturesque town curves around a bay dominated by a Venetian Fortress and the St Dennis Cathedral. On this island everything is different, the musical stories sang at the tavernas, the historic wineries, the stalactite & the blue caves, the sight of the 'ship wreck' sunk in the sand now, the cave of St. Damian and so much more you must explore for yourself. Who holidays in Zante? This island really is a beach lover's paradise which gives you the opportunity to have a lively holiday yet still find a quiet corner to escape the crowds. It is suitable for families and young people in the Laganas area during the peak summer months.
