Cyprus, The Island of Love, All-Year Round
Cyprus: Not just for the summer!
While we all know that Cyprus is a perfect summertime destination, what is often overlooked is just how enticing it can be the rest of the calendar year. While it doesn’t quite hit the scorching temperatures of the high summer, even in February the average temperature is around 18°C, with that number increasing up to 23°C by April.
Thanks to this mild weather, not only can you still put plenty of time in at the beach, but it also means you have the perfect conditions to go exploring and see more of the island’s historic sights and beautiful countryside.
The Island of Romance
Cyprus is known as the “Island of love”, and while this is in large part due to it being the mythological birthplace of Aphrodite, goddess of beauty and love, it is also due to its unmistakably romantic setting. The island is blessed with an abundance of crystal clear waters, golden beaches and tantalising restaurants; what could be more perfect at this time of year than a trip to the Island of Love to soak in this romantic atmosphere and enjoy some much needed sunshine amidst the bleak British winter?
Celebrate Love in Larnaca
One Cyprus destination that we would heartily recommend is the picturesque coastal city of Larnaca. The island’s third largest city is perfect for families or couples on a romantic trip and nearby lies Cyrpus’ premier party resort, Ayia Napa, should you be seeking a slightly livelier holiday experience with your other half.
Free excursions until April 30th 2016
Up until the end of April, the local tourist board in Larnaca are offering a whole host of free excursions to make your trip there extra special. These include a visit to Mazotos Camel Park, a unique animal safari park that allows visitors to get up close with these great creatures as well as taking in the wonderful local scenery. There’s also a guided walking tour of Larnaca providing an incredible insight into the cultural history of the city itself.
Alternatively there’s a “traditional” day out in the nearby village of Athienou, where you get a taste of traditional Cypriot life as you see the local flour mill in action and get the chance to try your hand at making halloumi – yum!
A prime location in Larnaca that we would thoroughly recommend is the Golden Bay Beach Hotel. Golden Bay overlooks a glorious sandy beach and is surrounded by beautiful sub-tropical gardens. It’s a five star resort with plush accommodation, delicious restaurants and flawless service. There’s a British style pub, beauty studio and sparkling pool for the adults, and a kids pool complete with water slides for the little ones.
The Palm Beach Hotel and Bungalows is equally luxurious, again perched on a sandy beach, it is renowned for its choice cuisine and prides itself on a personal service. These two top hotels have everything you will need in one location, but if you wish to venture out, there are plenty of bars, tavernas and restaurants in close walking distance of both.
Time to Book Some Winter Sun?
So as the weather remains chilly and grim over here in the UK, why not take this opportunity to see the Island of Love in all its glory. Cyprus’ beaches, historical sites and tavernas remain as welcoming as ever, so avoid the crowds and take a trip to this beautiful island in the coming months.
