We asked our always-on-the-pulse holiday reps to give us the insider’s guide to the top 5 things to do on a trip to Zante…
1/ Smugglers Cruise: Set sail to the north of the island and enjoy the beautiful Navagio, or “Shipwreck”, beach. This is a truly breath-taking cove that comes complete with the wreck of former smuggler’s ship, Panagiotis. Navagio is one of Greece’s most unique and eye-catching sun spots and is a must for any beach lover.
2/ Keri Caves: Another stunning area of great natural beauty on the island comes in the form of the legendary Keri Caves. The caves are accessible only by sea making it an ideal tranquil day out. With its crystal clear waters brimming with countless forms of aquatic life, this must-see spot is also the perfect place to try your hand at scuba diving. If that sounds a little too adventurous, simply grab a snorkel and enjoy the views below.
3/ Olympia: This ancient Greek town and birthplace of the Olympic Games is a mere stone’s throw away from Zante. The area is rich in Ancient Greek history and it is truly an unmissable sight for anyone with even a passing interest in Greece’s unique heritage. Among the many ancient buildings to be found are the both the Temple of Zeus and the Temple of Hera, where the modern day Olympic torch is lit.
4/ Kefalonia: Enjoy two holidays in one and hop on over to Kefalonia, another breath-taking island in the Ionian sea which is also within easy reach of Zante. Kefalonia is the largest of the Ionian islands and is both rich in history and brimming with gorgeous beaches. To fully enjoy its beauty, take a trip to the summit of Mount Aenos where you can look out across the entire island and beyond. Or, for a less strenuous day out, take in a leisurely gondola ride across the stunning underground Melissani lake.
5/ Kaiki Boat Cruise: Set out aboard a traditional Kaiki boat and pay a visit to the home of the Loggerhead sea turtle on the remote nearby island of Marathonissi in Laganas Bay. The island has no human inhabitants allowing you to see these incredible creatures in their undisturbed natural habitat.
