Our opinion: A perfect choice for a premium family holiday.
The Estrella de Mar, and its little sister hotel, the Coral, are right at the heart of things in this fabulous holiday destination. Perfectly situated for the shops and restaurants which bring the area to life, they are a two minute stroll to the white sandy beach fringed with pines and stretching several kms along the edge of the turquoise Mediterranean.
The hotels share facilities, the centre of attraction being the wonderful swimming pool fashioned like a tropical lagoon, irregularly shaped and surrounded by dappling greenery. Glide through the blue and feel your worries dissolve away. Rocks jutting out into the pool offer somewhere to clamber out and dry off on the warm stone. The pool bar is directly adjacent to the water under the shade of the palms with tables and chairs for a calm coffee or a cocktail kick in the evening.
There's more than swimming to be enjoyed at the Estrella Coral, however: for pamper days, put yourself in someone else's hands in the spa and wellness centre, or try the sauna and solarium. To keep in trim, there's a fitness centre, or you could try hiking or cycling in the lovely countryside. Less challenging, perhaps, is the games room, the billiards or mini golf - great for a giggle after a glass or two.
Though spacious rooms benefit from self-catering facilities, helpful for young families, the hotel also presents buffet meals where a variety of typical Mediterranean dishes are on offer with a selection of wines. Children enjoy their own spread of tempting treats, ensuring everyone is satisfied - a great family find.
