Hotels in Calas De Mallorca
Club Cala Romani Hotel
Our opinion: A perfect choice for families and couples with its excellent range of facilities. The Hotel Club Cala Romani consists of three 4-storey buildings accommodating over 450 rooms, many of which are self-catering apartments. With its friendly and fun atmosphere it is an ideal choice for a family holiday especially with its location a little over half a km from two great sister beaches, the Cala Comingos Gran, and Cala Comingos Petit. The fun begins on site, however: in its extensive grounds are 3 large pools creating an irresistible expanse of blue just begging you to dive in. Surrounding them is an equally large sun terrace punctuated with palm trees casting welcome shade. An abundance of sun loungers to stretch out on reflect its popularity as a spot to spend a day of downtime, the snack bar nearby providing supplies for the relaxation marathon. There is plenty of opportunity for action, though. For a start, the hotel's own leisure activities team keep things going with group activities and sports including aerobics, volleyball, water polo, boules and archery. With two hard tennis court and squash courts, a games room and table-tennis table available, too, there is little chance of boredom setting in. The entertainment runs on into the evening too, kicking off with the children's mini-disco, followed by quizzes and competitions, shows and dancing. The town of Manacor is only 18 kms distant, offering a great choice of bars, restaurants and shops. Cars can be hired at the hotel reception, and packed lunches are also available.

Sol Calas De Mallorca Resort
Our opinion: A lovely spot, and a great hotel for an unforgettable break. The Sol Calas de Majorca Hotel enjoys a terrific cliff-top location in the unspoilt area of Manacor with an abundance of white sandy coves and clear-water bays in close proximity. The guestrooms at the hotel, which was once three separate establishments, are to be found either in the main building, the annex or one of three lower buildings ranged around the attractive sun terrace. Here a lovely turquoise swimming pool is to be found surrounded by the requisite sun loungers and shady parasols for days of concentrated relaxation. For a change of scene, it's no distance to a lovely beach: Cala Domingos and Cala Antena flank the hotel on either side, and the sea can be reached in a 500-metre stroll. Its fabulous location coupled with great facilities make the Sol Calas a hot favourite with families; there is plenty to keep everyone entertained including a Kid's club, games room, tennis courts and a programme of entertainment in the main holiday season. If you fancy yourself as the next Lee Westwood, an 18-hole golf course is within 15 miles but if you see golf as a good walk ruined, the perfect antidote could be a spot of retail therapy in the resort centre, just 200 metres away, complemented by lunch at one of the many restaurants or bars in town. The Sol Calas caters amply for dinner itself, with a buffet in the main restaurant accompanied by local beer or wine. In the unlikely event that you're still peckish after this, snacks are available until 11pm, and drinks until midnight.

Hotasa Samoa Hotel
Our opinion: A good range of facilities and attractions of the resort to hand make the Hotasa Somoa Hotel a firm favourite with families. The Hotasa Somoa Hotel is a striking, contemporary looking establishment on the east coast between Cala Domingos and Cala Antena beach and the crystal clear-water coves in this unspoilt area. Large and airy with a modern interior, the imposing main building towers above extensive grounds and from its slightly elevated position, enjoys fabulous views of the gardens and sandy shoreline. Outside, the swimming pool takes centre stage, edged with three low buildings and a pleasing amount of greenery. The main pool resembles a figure of eight, with two distinct sections and, adjacent to it, another pool is for children's uninhibited fun. The hotel is a favourite among families for its great facilities - choose between golf and minigolf, basketball, beach volleyball, pedaloes, water aerobics, table tennis, and pool - and its enviable location a few steps from the sandy bay and within easy reach of the attractions of the resort. A well run hotel, the staff here works hard to ensure guests have a holiday to remember for all the right reasons and good service is a priority. Spacious rooms are simply, but elegantly furnished in neutral sand and sea hues and kept spotless with a daily clean. Each has a balcony with table and chairs for quiet moments absorbing the warmth, perhaps with a coffee and a good book, or with an aperitif before dinner. After a buffet of Spanish and international dishes, head to the lounge bar and grab a chair for the live music, cabaret acts and professional shows which follow the children's mini disco.
