Lefkas at a glance

The beauty of Lefkas isn’t only the lovely beaches and breathtaking scenery - it’s the amazing mixture of attractions it has for visitors. For Lefkas is many different places wrapped up in one delightful island.

It has tranquil villages set in lush green hillsides where you can enjoy a peaceful drink in a shady square. And it has busy resorts with lively cosmopolitan atmospheres and where you can eat and drink till late, if you wish.

It has blissful, sleepy bays and quiet fishing villages. There are beaches lively with watersports, nearby islands to explore, mountains to climb, waterfalls to find and the exciting spectacle of one of the best windsurfing resorts in Greece.

Known as the white island, because of its stunning white-stone cliffs, Lefkas has olive groves, vineyards, flower-decked meadows and pine forests as well as spectacular mountain peaks.

It is only just an island. A road bridge across an ancient canal links it to the mainland so visitors have the delights of island life but can visit the mainland without setting foot on a ferry. Lovely seaside town Parga and Nikopolis, the remains of a huge Roman city, are short drives away. But what an island it is!

Popular resorts, such as Nidri and Mikros Yialos, are on the pretty, sheltered east side of the island. The rugged coast on the wilder western edge has picturesque sandy beaches such as Agios Nikitas.

The windsurfing Mecca of Vassiliki is in a deep bay on the southern tip. Busy Lefkas Town, with Venetian churches and a medieval castle nearby, is in the north.

Lefkas has a good bus service linking most of the resorts and villages but cars, mountain bikes and small motorboats can be hired to explore the wonders of this island of fascinating contradictions.

There are plenty of instructors and the shallow shoreline is perfect for beginners.
