Our opinion: A charming and unpretentious hotel where the welcome is as warm as the African sun.
The Golden Beach is an attractive hotel awash with the colour and vibrancy of authentic African design and the welcoming staff here treat you like a member of the family, working hard to ensure you take home happy memories. It is situated on an unspoilt, sandy beach in Bijilo, close to all the activities on the Senegambia strip. The capital, Banjul is within easy reach too, car hire is available at reception, or taxis can be hired immediately outside.
The hotel sits in tranquil tropical gardens, where the swimming pool is also to be found - the perfect spot to seek out a bit of solitude to enjoy a good read, or settle on one of the sun loungers around the pool to snooze or chat to fellow guests. There are more to be had on the peacefully uncrowded beach where you can drift off to the gentle lapping of the sea. Spacious, air-conditioned guest rooms are simply but comfortably furnished and equipped with satellite television and high-speed internet access. Each room has a balcony or terrace, enjoying a lovely view, whether down to the beach or across the gardens.
The cheerful restaurant offers an enticing array of international dishes including seafood, grills and exotic Gambian specialties. After dinner, the ideal spot is the lobby bar for a cocktail or two where you can wind down before retiring to bed before another chilled-out day.
