Our opinion: A friendly, family run accommodation set in a quiet location.

The Penelope Apartments are set in attractive gardens and boast some spectacular views. These simple, newly renovated apartments are furnished in a traditional style and provide comfortable accommodation in a quiet location 250 metres off the main resort road. There are a number of facilities within easy reach and a 10 minute taxi ride will bring you to either of the lively resorts of Malia or Hersonissos. Please note that due to the location of these apartments they are not suitable for those with walking difficulties.

Our opinion: Quiet location but still within easy reach of all amenities.

Situated in a quiet location just 200 metres from the heart of the village of Elounda, the Emilia offers basic accommodation in a well maintained building which is within easy reach of the amenities in the resort including bars, cafes, tavernas and shops. The main beach is just a 10 minute walk away. The near by beach, is a great place to relax and unwind during the day. Kick back on the beach and soak up some rays, or take a swim in the sea. Guests may wish to take advantage of use of swimming pool 5 minutes away from the apartments. There's everything you may need for a great basic self catering holiday, offering the prefect base for a relaxing holiday in the sun.

Our opinion: This accommodation has great views due to the hilltop location and offers magnificent views of the surrounding area and sea.

Simple, traditional Cretan style property offering facilities for a self catering stay. Situated on a hillside on the outskirts of Elounda on the road to Plaka, this accommodation has sea views with a panoramic view of Spinalonga. During the day guests can unwind on the beach or alternatively or enjoy the outdoor pool while children will also be kept entertained with their own playground. Internet access is available and the reception offers safety deposit boxes and money exchange for guests' convenience. Kavos Bay is ten minutes walk along the coastline, from Elounda village where numerous of tavernas, bars and shops are. Please note this accommodation is not suitable for guests with walking difficulties.

Our opinion: A family run hotel offering a simple standard of accommodation.

Surrounded by olive groves, the family run Krini Hotel offers a simple standard of accommodation with a friendly atmosphere. The hotel consists of two buildings with an inviting swimming pool. Close to the hotel you will find several tavernas and mini markets and the sea which is only a 500 metres distance away. The picturesque village of Elounda with its lovely harbour and many facilities is a five minute drive away.

Our opinion: Ideal for couples who enjoy a relaxing holiday in elegant surroundings.

Elounda Residence is situated on a hill, 800 meters from the centre opposite the picturesque harbour of Elounda and it's beach. The Elounda Residence offers guests a quality service in a quiet and cosy atmosphere. This lovely hotel features a host of facilities to suit all ages. The one bedroom apartments are tastefully furnished and well appointed with the modern amenities required for a comfortable stay. Elounda Residence Hotel has a large swimming pool, whilst children can have fun in their own pool and playground. The pool is surrounded by a sun terrace with loungers, umbrellas and a pool-side bar serving cooling refreshments throughout the day. Guests can dine at the hotels onsite restaurant serving excellent Mediterranean cuisine and international cuisine. Guests can take advantage of the hotel's all-inclusive package that provides all meals, snacks and drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic available at a supplement. Please note, due to the location of the hotel, it is unsuitable for those with walking difficulties.

Our opinion: The Elounda Akti Olous hotel is a recently renovated family run hotel that is ideal for all age groups looking for comfortable accommodation in a friendly environment.

The hotel Elounda Akti Olous is located on the beach at Elounda and only 300 metres from the village centre, its small harbour and shopping venues. The roof garden provides stunning panoramic view of the Elounda Bay. Additional facilities include a restaurant, children's playground and gymnasium. The guest rooms are beautiful decorated and have modern amenities that guests may need during their stay. The distance to the village of Elounda is 300 metres and the airport is 70 kilometres away. Elounda is a worldwide famous and popular travel destination, located at the north-east coast of Crete within the prefecture of Lassithi, just a few miles north to it's nearest major town Agios Nikolaos. The village of Elounda as well as the neighbouring town of Agios Nikolaos offer a well organised tourism infrastructure, beautiful beaches and numerous shopping possibilities.

Our opinion: A popular hotel with a loyal clientele, the Elounda Ilion is the perfect choice for a thoroughly relaxing holiday.

The Elounda Ilion is an elegant, sophisticated hotel built into the hillside with panoramic views throughout of the Mirabello Gulf and the medieval castle perched on the island of Spinalonga. Staff here will give you a warm welcome and be attentive to your every need - the atmosphere is intimate while not being intrusive, which is why guests return year after year. The main focus is the huge, beautiful pool and decked sun terrace where you'll think you're in paradise. This is the place to spend the day relaxing or, later, enjoying an aperitif while you watch the sun descend. Rooms are spacious and comfortable with contemporary furnishings and fittings, each with a balcony and stunning views over the gardens and out to sea. There are ample activities to keep you occupied, such as tennis, mini golf, table tennis and diving. There's also a playground for children. If you do feel like venturing out, though, the nearest sandy beach is about a mile away and a small rocky cove is just two hundred metres from the hotel. Elounda, a small, picturesque town with a pretty harbour can be reached in a leisurely half-hour walk and from here boat trips can be taken to Spinalonga and the sunken city of Olounis. Staff are happy to book taxis but why not hire a car and really make the most of the stunning scenery and attractions within easy reach. After a day out and about, you'll find a wide choice of fresh, well-cooked dishes waiting for you in the attractive restaurant.

Elounda Aqua Sol Resort is situated in the former fishing village of Elounda on the island of Crete, just 200 metres from the beach and the sparkling blue Mediterranean Sea. The hotel boasts a large swimming pool with separate children's section is perfect for a relaxing swim and the poolside bar serves snacks throughout the day. Those looking to relax and soak up the sun can take advantage of the sun loungers. Facilities at the hotel include a tennis court, table tennis and sauna. Guests may relax and dine in the hotels restaurants and enjoy a drink in the hotel bars. During the evenings guests won't have to stray far from the hotel to find entertainment as the bar serves a wide selection of drinks accompanied by live entertainment. The Elounda Palm Hotel is situated on the outskirts of Elounda Village and offers superb views over the resort and out towards the island of Spinalonga. This boutique hotel is especially designed to provide guests with a relaxing atmosphere, yet is within easy reach of local restaurants and night-life. The attentive service and wide range of facilities will ensure a comfortable stay. Elounda Palm Hotel consist of 62 fabulous accommodations ranging from rooms, bungalows and suites. All rooms offer a private bathroom, individual air conditioning unit, direct dial telephone, satellite TV, safety deposit box, hair dryer and balcony or veranda with spectacular views of the sea or the gardens. Guests can spend lazy days by the outdoor seawater swimming pool, with separate children's section. There is also a small playground to keep younger guests occupied. Guests can enjoy mouth watering local and international dishes from the main restaurant, while the bar is a perfect spot to unwind with a cooling drink. The hotel is is approximately 1 kilometre from the beach and there is a wide variety of water sports, bars, restaurants and night-life available in the area.

Our opinion: Staying in Efterpi or Argiro will be an experience of a lifetime for those seeking to experience a traditional Greek holiday.

Efterpi and Argiro houses are both located in the village of Mavrikiano and overlook the beautiful resort of Elounda. Efterpi can accommodate 5 people in 2 different areas. The entrance to Efterpi leads to a small courtyard with an open sitting area and a complete summer kitchen. The door to the left leads into the main room with a sitting area and two single beds. On the right is a fireplace, a single bed and the kitchen. At the back is a full sized bathroom with Jacuzzi. The wooden stairs to the right lead to the attic/loft area bedroom with a double bed. Argiro can accommodate 5 people in 3 different areas. Argiro is a traditional stone house, built in 1905. Rebuilt in 1930 and again in 1965, when it was bought by the well-known architect Theodosopulos, who restored it as it is seen today. Stone steps from the street lead into the small stone courtyard with lots of flowers. On the right is an entrance to the small bathroom. Upon entering Argiro house, there is a small kitchen with a dining area a few steps up, which includes a stone fireplace. There is also a loft area over the kitchen featuring a large bed. The living room has a stone fireplace and sofas that convert into beds. From here the stone staircase leads to a terrace with a summer kitchen, as well as to a master bedroom featuring a double bed. The views of the Gulf of Mirabello and Elounda from the covered terrace are simply amazing. The nearest sandy beach as well as the village of Elounda is a 15-min walk from the properties. The Heraklion airport is about 75 kms from Elounda. Please note due to the many original design features, and the care taken to retain the original character of the properties during restoration, the Traditional Homes of Crete are not suitable for those with mobility/balnce issues or for children. Care should be taken when on roof terraces/balconies/mezanine floors and staircases, as some properties have open staircases and elevated floors. Some roof terraces and balconies have low protective walls or railings with large gaps. These features have been kept to allow guests a true experience of the way Cretan people lived over a hundred years ago.
