Our opinion: A comfortable, basic accommodation within easy reach of resort facilities.If you're looking for a lovely relaxing self catering family holiday in Greece, the Kaissa Hotel Apartments are ideal. Located on the sea front just 700 metres from the centre of the small resort of Gouves. The Kaissa Hotel Apartments feature 38 studio and one bedroom apartments that can accommodate up to 3 and 4 persons. Fully equipped kitchenette, bathroom with shower, satellite TV and a balcony or terrace. The complex features a outdoor swimming pool and a sun terrace with loungers and parasols laid out ready to use, ideal place to soak up the sun. There is a lovely pool bar serving drinks and snacks throughout the day. Children will have plenty to keep them busy with their own pool and play area on hand. Guests can also make use of the safety deposit box and air conditioning that is provided at a local charge.
Klio Apart Hotel 3.5 Star
Our opinion: A friendly family run complex set in an excellent location, ideal for couples and families looking for a great place to stay in Crete.The self-catering Klio Apart Hotel is situated in the area of Kato Gouves. The accommodation is built upon an old farm surrounded by lemon trees. Situated 17 kilometres east of Heraklion, Gouves is a very quiet and relaxing resort with all the necessary amenities such as shops, restaurants, bars, ATMs, bus stops and taxis. The seafront is just 150 metres away and it is just a ten minute walk to the high street of the resort. Guests can expect the best of both worlds as they can enjoy tranquillity whilst at the hotel as well as the busy resort centre which is just a few moments away. Gouves is a beautiful resort that is a great choice for those seeking a taste of Cretan life and some excellent Greek cuisine at the authentic tavernas.
Despo Hotel
Our opinion: The Despo offers a comfortable base in attractive surroundings ideal for a family holiday.The Despo is an attractive hotel offering comfortable accommodation in a convenient spot: the local sandy beach is just 600 metres where there are facilities for a range of water sports, payable locally. The centre of Gouves, with its selection of cafes, bars and shops is just a couple of miles distant and conveniently, there is a bus stop outside the hotel. The hotel has a traditional feel, set among well-kept gardens with plenty of green space for sunbathing. In the inviting dining room, all meals, which are traditional Greek fare, are are included as well as drinks from the bars. In the grounds, the lovely swimming pools are to be found - one for children as well as a playground too. The Despo Hotel offers good value for money and makes a great base for exploring the Northern part of the island.
Lavris Paradise Hotel
Our opinion: Very well suited for families and couples.The Lavris Paradise is a luxuriously furnished hotel built in 2003. It is a part of the family complex and caters for young and mature couples, families with children and singles. The hotel is situated in the resort of Kato Gouves, 15 kilometres east of Heraklion, 14 kilometres from the airport, 500 metres from the fine sandy beach and 2 kilometres from the picturesque old village of Gouves. It is only 8 kilometres from the bustling resort of Hersonissos and 16 kilometres from Malia. All of the above places can be visited by an efficient, cheap and regular bus service (every 30 minutes). The bus stop is only 150 metres from the hotel.
Magda Hotel
Our opinion: A friendly atmosphere, comfortable rooms and a great range of activities make the Magda Hotel an ideal choice for families seeking lots of fun things to do.The Magda Hotel is designed in soft colours and a comfortable style to create a pleasant holiday atmosphere. All of this combined with excellent service and moderate prices make this hotel the ideal place for a nice and enjoyable holiday. The hotel is located in Gouves area, 16 kms from Heraklion, 14 kms from the airport, 3 kms from the traditional old village of Gouves, 200 metres from the resort centre of Gouves, and about 80 metres from a beautiful sandy beach. Beside the lovely sea front, you can also visit plenty of bars and restaurants in the area.
Aphrodite Beach Club
Our opinion: Excellent sea front location.Aphrodite Beach Club is located at the beach area of Gouves. The Hotel is 18 kilometres away from the city if Heraklion and 7 kilometres away from Hersonissos. The village of Gouves offers a wide variety of shops, traditional restaurants and bars. The hotel features a outdoor pool for all its guests, situated in the attractive grounds. The pool bar serves snacks and beverages for those lazy days by the pool. The Fitness studio, where guests can burn those extra calories off. After a workout guests can unwind in the sauna or take a dip in the pool. There are always plenty of activities to keep the children busy, from their own pool, playground, mini club and a mini disco. Evening dinner at the hotel's main restaurant is an ideal way to start the evening. Guests can then enjoy an after-dinner drink in the hotel bar. Guests can take advantage of the hotel's all-inclusive package that provides all meals, snacks and local alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks.

Our opinion: Excellent accommodation, a relaxed atmosphere and a stones throw from the beach.Miro St Constantin is set on the island of Crete in the peaceful area of Gouves village. It is near to the sandy beach with its beautiful crystal clear waters, which is just 90 metres away and there is another rocky beach nearby. This family run hotel is kept absolutely spotless and is very well maintained with pleasant gardens and a lovely pool area. The resort of Gouves is ideal for those seeking a taste of Cretan life and a good selection of authentic Greek tavernas. The resort also offers a good selection of amenities including supermarkets and bars. This is an excellent choice for anyone seeking a really laid back resort offering peace and tranquility, as well as real Greek hospitality and the opportunity for poolside relaxation.
The Island Hotel
Our opinion: Modern and sophisticated; an oasis of tranquillity for adults only.If you've spent the winter daydreaming about a Greek island paradise with views to die for, the Island Hotel will deliver your fantasy. The hotel is situated in the fashionable resort of Gouves, a purpose-built, friendly village of whitewashed buildings speckling the mountainside, Gouves offers a good representation of traditional Greek tavernas, restaurants and shops along the palm-fringed promenade, overlooking the expanse of the Mediterranean. Exuding a very grown-up atmosphere, The Island fits the bill as an adults only hotel, with sophisticated, sleek design, where squishy sofas and inviting chaises lounges team up with natural stone. Plush and inviting rooms are furnished with silk and velvet in colours inducing calm and content. Most are a few steps from the beach, many with a private hydro massage pool. A change of scene from the glorious blue of the hotel pools could be one of the three pretty beaches nearby. But, with over sized sun beds and cushions, this may not be soon. Once your cares have floated away, and your competitive streak is stirring, tennis, volleyball, table tennis and basketball and water sports are there to restore your equilibrium. Lyda Hotel
Our opinion: A gem of a find for a fun family holiday.Lyda Hotel is ideally located in a tranquil spot near the popular resort of Gouves, just a 10 minute walk from two sandy beaches. All around are beautiful gardens where guests choose between three freshwater pools. Children have their own pool to splash around in too, when not in the mini club or tearing around the extensive grounds. A swim-up bar and poolside snack bar keep the refreshments coming. There is a mini-market on site, a games room helps whip up some friendly competition and there is a Jacuzzi and sauna for perfecting the art of relaxation. The picturesque old village of Gouves is close by and the bustling resorts of Hersonisos and Malia can be reached on the regular bus from right outside the hotel. Accommodation is functional and furnished simply for a comfortable stay without fuss. Meals can be taken in the buffet restaurant which extends on to a pretty terrace shaded by bleached cotton parasols. Regular theme nights are arranged by the staff to bring the day to a fun close.
