Our opinion: You'll find everything you need at the Mitsis Rinela Beach Resort & Spa offers for the perfect break.The 5 star Mitsis Rinela Beach Resort & Spa is superbly located in the popular resort of Kokkini Hani within easy reach of the Creta Aquarium and Water City and the bustling resorts of Hersonisos and Malia . Shops, bars and restaurants are within 50 metres. Low rise, whitewashed buildings overlook an extensive, private, sandy beach with magnificent views. Centre stage is the fabulous main pool at the bottom of majestic, palm-lined, stone steps, - one of 5 outdoor pools, and yet another in the spa where life's stresses melt away. For splashy fun, two of the pools have water slides and family fun is a focus at the Mitsis Rinela Beach. Children can make new friends at the Mini Club, or get involved in the entertaining activities taking place daily. A few steps past the pools is the beautiful beach, with sand stretching as far as the eye can sea, where sun beds and parasols are plentiful. Here, a selection of water sports are on offer, overseen by a professional lifeguard. Traditional Greek and international dishes are laid out buffet-style in the main restaurant, and a children's corner caters for younger guests enthralled entertainment while they eat. You might be tempted by the la carte Chinese restaurant, or less formal snacks from one of the 7 bars or cafe, two of them adjacent to the pools. At the end of the day, in the open-air disco and theatre bar, dance or watch a show with a nightcap or two while the sun goes down.

Our opinion: With a warm welcome, and plenty to do, the Themis Beach Hotel is a great pick for a family holiday.Themis Beach is a lovely, 4 star, family hotel situated on a beautiful sandy beach in the village of Kokkini Hani, 13 kms east of Heraklion. It is built in a typical white-washed Cretan style interspersed with gardens, palms and olive trees, and the owners take pride in its comfort, cleanliness and warm welcome. As well as having the Aegean sea on the doorstep, there is a large, attractive pool with a children's section, and a beach bar to make day-long sunbathing a breeze. As well as this, you will find a fitness room, tennis court, table tennis and pool table for when you've recharged your batteries. Many activities take place on the expansive, sandy beach, including volleyball and a range of water sports. Here you will also find sun beds and parasols and some shade from trees. Meals are served buffet-style in the main restaurant for breakfast lunch and dinner, but snacks are available through the day from the cafe or bars. As well as a bar poolside, the main bar provides a terrace overlooking the sea - the perfect place to have a coffee in the morning with a good book, or an aperitif before dinner as the sun is going down. The pulsating nightlife and picturesque sightseeing of Agios Nikolaos is 45 kms away, and just 15 kms distant is the Knossos Palace. Kokkini Hani town itself is a 200 metres walk from the hotel, and here you will find more shops, restaurants, bars and discos.
