Climate

In the north of Crete the climate is typically Mediterranean; in the south it's almost subtropical. Spring comes early with average temperatures of 15?C/61?F in March and 20?C/68?F in April.

Summers are baking hot and dry but with strong sea breezes. July and August are the hottest (and windiest) months - temperatures average 25.9?C/85?F and can reach 40?C/104?F.

From November to March the weather is cooler and damper, although even in January the average temperature is 12?C. During this period, many attractions close, and it can be very cold indeed in the mountains, where snow falls regularly.

WELCOME TO CRETE

We would like to point out that the way of life in Crete is very different to back in the U.K and other parts of Europe.

WATER
We advise that you avoid drinking tap water here as it contains a high mineral content, and suggest that you drink bottled water, which is readily available from many supermarkets and bars in resort.

BATHROOM
Many showers here do not have shower curtains and the floor does get very wet.
Most of the showers are hand held. Please avoid putting the towels on the floor to stand on. The toilet system is a bit primitive. Toilet paper must be put in the bin provided in the bathroom, putting paper in the system will certainly block it as the pipes are very narrow.

MAID SERVICE
Self-catering apartments are usually cleaned 3 times a week, once on arrival and twice during the remainder of the week. Sheets are changed once a week and towels twice. In hotels, cleaning is usually daily with sheets and towels changed 2 or 3 times during the week.

ELECTRICITY
The voltage here is 220V - you can use all electrical appliances with a 2 pin plug.

HOT WATER
Water is usually solar heated which means it may not be hot in the morning, but should be more than adequate by early evening.

SELF CATERING
Our studios and apartments are equipped with a minimum of a sink, fridge, two cooking rings and basic kitchen utensils. The facilities are for making simple meals but don't expect to be able to produce a 5 course meal.
