Eating/Drinking During Polychrono Holidays

Greece holidays are truly a paradise for food lovers; speciality dishes include keftedes (meatballs with oregano and mint), dolmades (rice and herbs wrapped in vine leaves) and souvlaki (grilled skewers of meat). Try a Greek meze (a selection of different Greek dishes to taste a little of everything). To compliment your meal, restaurants offer a number of delicious, inexpensive local wines varying from area to area. Or try a glass of ouzo, Greece's national drink.

Major resorts provide a wide variety of bars and restaurants with something to suit all tastes, from all-night discos and international restaurants to cosy little tavernas serving typical Greek fare. Nightlife in the smaller resorts tends to centre round the latter where the charm lies in their authenticity and more traditional feel.

Getting Around on Polychrono Holidays

Bus: Buses are frequent, on time (usually) and cheap although not always air-conditioned. The KTEL Bus service provides local links to numerous towns and villages on the Kassandra peninsular and Halkidiki as a whole, as well as longer distance journeys further inland to Thessaloniki and to the region's administrative capital, Poligyros. From any place on Halkidiki there is a regular bus service to Thessaloniki almost every hour.

Boat: in the Kassandra Peninsular: From Nea Moudania, there are speed boat itineraries during the summer to Thessaloniki and the Sporades.

Taxi: Even the smallest of villages in the Halkidiki region generally have one or two taxis, and of course the tourist areas have many more on offer. All taxis are on metre, but it might be a good idea to ask the driver for a rough idea of the price before you set off.

Car Hire: An excellent way of getting around during Polychrono holidays, car hire gives you complete flexibility as well as the ability to see more of the island.

Polychrono Holidays Shopping

Gold: Many gold products can be found in the three coloured Cartier styles.

Ceramics: There are many styles of ceramics to be found in the area. As well as the gold plated style, you can find the red and black style that is found all over Greece.

Woollen Goods: Arnea, in the Holoman Mountains, is the place to go to see the ladies of the village busy spinning and weaving for the handmade Flokati rugs, carpets and tapestries.

Holidays in Polychrono - Beaches

Afitos Beach is found 1 km from the village centre, down a steep hill. Sunbathe on the white, sandy beach on the left hand side of the beach. Situated in a small bay, with boats moored in deeper waters, sunbeds and umbrellas are available. Enjoy a meal at one of the two nearby tavernas and watch the locals mending their fishing nets whilst discussing village gossip.

Kriopigi Beach is roughly a 30 minutes walk down a steep, windy road from the village. This beach is definitely away from it all. On the left is a quiet, fine, shingle beach with beautiful clear waters backed by pine trees.

Hanioti Beach is a long golden beach offering a variety of water sports. Plenty of sun beds and umbrellas are for hire. Refreshments are available along the beach. With beautiful views across to the Sithonia peninsular the beach is very popular for tourists but also for Greek locals.
