Map of Halkidiki

Places Of Interest

  • Thessaloniki - The second largest city in Greece: Many places of history can be visited such as: the old town, the oldest church St Dimitrios. For some relaxation, a drink by the promenade offers the opportunity to enjoy the cosmopolitan atmosphere. Also great for shopping the city has a huge open daily market but also a selection of designers shops.

  • Sithonia is the most beautiful unspoiled area in Halkidiki. The best way to visit this area is by car. There are numerous traditional villages and also many secluded beaches where the water is crystal clear. It is a very relaxing way to enjoy the sheer beauty of Halkidiki.

  • Mt Athos is the most spectacular place in the area. It is the third peninsula of Halkidiki. There are more than 20 monasteries where even today 1700 monks are based. The monasteries are well preserved and can only be seen from the sea by boat

Beaches

  • Afitos Beach is found 1 km from the village centre, down a steep hill. Sunbathe on the white, sandy beach on the left hand side of the beach. Situated in a small bay, with boats moored in deeper waters, sun beds and umbrellas are available. Enjoy a meal at one of the two nearby tavernas and watch the locals mending their fishing nets whilst discussing village gossip.

  • Kryopigi Beach is roughly a 30 minutes walk down a steep, windy road from the village. This beach is definitely away from it all. On the left is a quiet, fine, shingle beach with beautiful clear waters backed by pine trees.

  • Hanioti Beach - This is a long golden beach offering a variety of water sports. Plenty of sun beds and umbrellas are for hire. Refreshments are available along the beach. With beautiful views across to the Sithonia peninsular the beach is very popular for tourists but also for Greek locals.

To get there:

Fly to Thessaloniki (also called Salonika) from the UK airports.
The airport is located at a distance of about 15 km from the centre of Salonika (to the east).

To get around:

By Bus: Buses are frequent, on time (usually) and cheap although not always air-conditioned.
The KTEL Bus service provides local links to numerous towns and villages on the Kassandra peninsular and Halkidiki as a whole, as well as longer distance journeys further inland to Thessaloniki and to the region's administrative capital, Poligyros. From any place on Halkidiki there is a regular bus service to Thessaloniki almost every hour.

By Boat: in the Kassandra Peninsular: From Nea Moudania, there are speed boat itineraries during the summer to Thessaloniki and the Sporades.

By taxi: Even the smallest of villages in the Halkidiki region generally have one or two taxis, and of course the tourist areas have many more on offer. All taxis are on metre, but it might be a good idea to ask the driver for a rough idea of the price before you set off.

By car: It is recommended that you hire a car to travel around Halkidiki, as so many beaches and sites are worth visiting in the area and only reached by vehicle. Hire a fully comprehensive car or jeep from our representatives. Car hire available in the airport.
