Our opinion: A gem of a find for a fun family holiday.

Lyda Hotel is ideally located in a tranquil spot near the popular resort of Gouves, just a 10 minute walk from two sandy beaches. All around are beautiful gardens where guests choose between three freshwater pools. Children have their own pool to splash around in too, when not in the mini club or tearing around the extensive grounds. A swim-up bar and poolside snack bar keep the refreshments coming. There is a mini-market on site, a games room helps whip up some friendly competition and there is a Jacuzzi and sauna for perfecting the art of relaxation. The picturesque old village of Gouves is close by and the bustling resorts of Hersonisos and Malia can be reached on the regular bus from right outside the hotel.

Accommodation is functional and furnished simply for a comfortable stay without fuss. Meals can be taken in the buffet restaurant which extends on to a pretty terrace shaded by bleached cotton parasols. Regular theme nights are arranged by the staff to bring the day to a fun close.
