Our opinion: With a warm welcome, and plenty to do, the Themis Beach Hotel is a great pick for a family holiday.
Themis Beach is a lovely, 4 star, family hotel situated on a beautiful sandy beach in the village of Kokkini Hani, 13 kms east of Heraklion. It is built in a typical white-washed Cretan style interspersed with gardens, palms and olive trees, and the owners take pride in its comfort, cleanliness and warm welcome. As well as having the Aegean sea on the doorstep, there is a large, attractive pool with a children's section, and a beach bar to make day-long sunbathing a breeze. As well as this, you will find a fitness room, tennis court, table tennis and pool table for when you've recharged your batteries. Many activities take place on the expansive, sandy beach, including volleyball and a range of water sports. Here you will also find sun beds and parasols and some shade from trees.
Meals are served buffet-style in the main restaurant for breakfast lunch and dinner, but snacks are available through the day from the cafe or bars. As well as a bar poolside, the main bar provides a terrace overlooking the sea - the perfect place to have a coffee in the morning with a good book, or an aperitif before dinner as the sun is going down.
The pulsating nightlife and picturesque sightseeing of Agios Nikolaos is 45 kms away, and just 15 kms distant is the Knossos Palace. Kokkini Hani town itself is a 200 metres walk from the hotel, and here you will find more shops, restaurants, bars and discos.
