Ios Town: Also known as the village, Ios Town is a dazzling mix of white houses and blue domed churches. There are ruins of the Venetian fortress, built in 1400 by Marco Crispi, remains of ancient walls and 12 windmills above the town. Ios town is the liveliest part of the island with several decent bars and a few excellent clubs for all tastes in music.
Gialos: The port of Gialos, or Ios Port, has a busy harbour, with yachts and fishing boats, good seafood and tavernas. It is much quieter than Ios Town. On the left of the port near the entrance, is the beautiful 17th century church of St. Irene. It is structured in a peculiar way with two altars, one older than the other and it is assumed that they were used by the Orthodox and Catholics respectively. The Ruins of the Medieval Castle: The remains of the ancient town built where today's capital is situated. The ruins of the medieval castle built in 1937 are worth visiting. You can also find the Archaeological Museum on the ground floor of the Town Hall, as well the museum of Modern Art "Zean Mari Ntro" and the museum of Traditional Art.
Homer's Grave: Do not forget to visit Homer's grave, who was the most famous poet of the ancient world, at Plakoto on the northern part of Amorgos. According to tradition, Homer, during his trip to Athens from Samos Island, descended on Ios where the locals posed him an enigma according to their local customs. When the poet proved unable to solve it, he was killed and buried on the island.
