Melissani Cave: Thought to be at least 30000 years old and containing an underground lake which is eerily lit via a whole in the cave roof caused by the 1953 earthquake. Taking a boat trip on this underground lake where the colours appear to change throughout the day is truly an unforgettable experience.
Cave of Drogarati: Located just 5 kms south of Sami and very close to the cave of Melissani is this large imposing cavern is a sight of rare beauty and is also known as the 'Concert Cave', the large chamber situated 150ft below the ground has fantastic acoustics and can accommodation 500 people.
Robolla Winery: Located close to Frangata in a beautiful location this is the best place to sample Kefalonia's world famous wine.
Mosaics at Skala: Contained within a glass and wood structure in a small Roman villa on a path above the beach at Skala are two well preserved mosaics - one of a man being attacked by wild cats and another of a scene around a sacrificial altar.
Archaeological Museum at Argostoli: Containing a collection of antiquities to rival any others within the Ionian Islands.
Mount Ednos: This vast mountain that dominates the scenery in the south of the island and has been designated a National Park contains a wide variety of wildlife.
The Tomb of Odysseus: Shrouded in myth and mystery and still being excavated many locals believe this Mycenaean tomb to be that of Odysseus. Whatever the claims, it is still one of the most important historical finds on Kefalonia. The archaeological site can be easily be found near Tzanata village and is sign-posted from Poros.
Myrtos Beach: One of the most photographed spots in the Ioanians and best viewed from the cliff top where the breathtaking crescent of white pebbles next to a turquoise sea can be most appreciated.

Getting Around on Kefalonia Holidays
Boat: There are boat connections with the neighbouring islands (Corfu, Ithaca, Lefkas) as well as the mainland (Patras, Igoumenitsa and Kyllini) from Argostoli, Sami and Poros. There is a ferry boat between Argostoli and car hire gives you complete flexibility as well as the ability to see more of the island.
Bus: There are local buses connecting the main villages. You can get to almost any point on Kefalonia - even remote beaches, villages, and monasteries - by KTEL bus. Schedules, however, are quite flexible. The KTEL station is on Leoforos A. Tritsi, at the far end of the harbour road, 200m (656 ft.) past the Trapano Bridge.
Taxi: For those who don't enjoy driving twisting mountain roads, taxis are the best alternative but you should negotiate the fare prior to commencing the journey.
