Holidays in Mykonos - BeachesAghios Yiannis Beach - Made famous by the film Shirley Valentine. it is considered the most beautiful sandy beach in the South west of Mykonos (4km from Mykonos). It has a few tavernas with a great view of neighbouring islands. Ornos Beach - A long sandy beach with plenty of facilities. Sun beds and umbrellas are available for a small fee. A very popular family beach due to its protected location. Super Paradise Beach - It is one of the most famous beaches of the island with clear blue crystal water. The best manner to reach the beach is with the caique (small fishing boat). A really nice Mykonos excursion. Paradise Beach - A lively beach with discos and bars, watersports and scuba diving. Elia Beach , a 45 minute caique ride from Plati Yialos, is one of the best and largest beaches. There is also a water park by this beach. Plati Yialos is another favourite. It is served by a bus that runs regularly through the day and evening. The next major beach, Kalo Livadi (Good Pasture), a beautiful spot in an idyllic farming valley, is accessible by a scramble over the peninsula east from Elia and by bus from the north station in the summer. Holidays in Mykonos - TransportFoot : One of Hora's greatest assets is the government decree that made the town an architectural landmark and prohibited motorised traffic on its streets. If you don't arrive with your donkey or bicycle, you can walk around town. Much of the rest of the island is served by local buses. Taxi : Getting around by Taxi during Mykonos holidays is very convenient and allows you to visit areas of interest quickly and comfortably. However travelling by taxi is the most costly mode of transport, rates are fixed yearly and there are no meters. The rates are standardised by destination and are displayed at the taxi square. Taxi square is at the main square of the island, next to the statue of Manto Mavrogenenous. Bus : Mykonos has one of the best bus systems in the Greek islands; the buses run frequently and on schedule. Depending on your destination, the cost of ticket is very cheap. There are two bus stations in Hora: one near the archaeological museum and one near the Olympic Airways office (follow the helpful blue signs). Check at the tourist office to see which station the bus you want leaves from, or look for one of the schedules sometimes available in hotels. Bus information in English is sometimes available from the office of Greece's long distance bus service. Boat : Travelling around by boat during your holiday in Mykonos is a lovely way of visiting the beaches at the south and western area of the island.
