The picturesque village of Ammoudia in Preveza with its wonderful sandy beach and the important water biotope is built on the mouth of the river Acheron, known from the mythology. It is 47 km from Preveza, 17 km from Parga and 45 km from Igoumenitsa. According to tradition, Odysseus started his journey from this beautiful corner of the prefecture of Preveza and following the river Acheron and the lake Acherousia reached the ancient Mycenean colony Efyra and the famous Nekromanteio (Oracle of the Dead).
