Holidays in Greece

Greece Holidays at a glance

Readers Awards 2012 - The Sunday Times Travel Magazine: - Greece has been awarded the prestigious "Best European Beach Destination" award by the Sunday Times Travel magazine. This is the second recent award for Greece, as the National Geographic Travellers' Editors, are including Thessaloniki (the second largest city in Greece) as one of the 20 must see places for 2013!

This is solid proof that for UK Press & public, Greece is a top holiday destination, an easy and safe to explore country, capable to satisfy every taste and budget.

Greek Holidays this year are even better value! A Post Office survey, comparing cost-of-living prices has found the average cost of a shopping basket in Greece - including a meal for two, drinks and sun cream - is 10% cheaper this year than last. So, in a difficult economy, make your holiday budget go even further by choosing a holiday to Greece. Within this magnificent country, you are still spoilt for choice.

Having a northern mainland bordering Turkey, Bulgaria, Macedonia and Albania, and the south fractured into well over 1000 islands, 227 of which are inhabited, the landscape varies from rugged, pine-clad mountains to more gentle undulations down to wide expanses of cream-coloured sand where whitewashed buildings cluster around pretty harbours and where the waters of the Mediterranean, Aegean and Ionian seas lap her shores.

At the axis of Europe, Asia and Africa, Greece is imbued with the influences of contrasting cultures and everywhere are the antiquities and remnants of her historical past, co-existing with the gentle sway of modern-day living. Sites of ancient ruins, museums full of artefact's and the cool cloisters of monasteries unchanged for centuries attract history and culture lovers from around the world.

After dark, the fun really takes off as the lights of restaurants and bars twinkle through the inky sky. It could be a languorous meal watching a spectacular sunset, or a riotous night in a lively club - the choice is yours.

It's easy to discover just what it is that attracts millions of holidaymakers to this captivating part of the world each year. With its ability to cater for a wide range of tastes, Greek holidays remain among the most popular of package deals. So if you're in search of Greek all inclusive holidays, value family holiday or a budget holiday then look no further than Greece holidays at Olympic.

Greece Holidays - Destination Profile

Package holidays to Greece and the Greek islands have been popular since the 1960s and continue to attract millions of visitors every year. Those taking Greece holidays are enchanted with all it has to offer and visitors return to Greece year after year to enjoy all its delights.

Holidays to each of the Greek Islands provide different experiences catering for a variety of tastes. So you can rest assured that whatever your holiday interests are, there is a Greek island or resort to satisfy your requirements.

Fantastic Range of Greek Holiday Destinations

Ionian Islands

The Ionian Islands lie off the west coast of the Greek mainland and enjoy gloriously hot summers and mild wet winters. These conditions are perfect for the cypress trees that cover the spectacular mountainous landscape and the olive groves and hillsides peppered with wild flowers. Stunning beaches of perfect sand and gently shelving seas make the Ionian Islands perfect for family holidays. Corfu, Kefalonia and Zante are familiar names and popular Greek holiday destinations but this island group includes some lesser known gems such as Lefkada and Paxos which retain the essence of traditional Greek life.

Cyclades Islands

Think of a Greek island and you will probably envisage one of the 39 islands that make up the Cyclades lying south east of the mainland. The characteristic bright, white sugar cube houses splashed with brilliant blue perfectly reflect the contrasts of brightness and deep shadow cast by the radiant sunshine and pick up the hues of sea and sky. The sheer cliff faces of Santorini and the tiny churches and enchanting windmills of Mykonos two of the most popular islands, appear on brochure fronts and postcards everywhere and a variety of holidays to these enchanting islands are on offer at Olympic Holidays.

Sporades Islands

Some of the best beaches in Greece are to be found on the small cluster of islands known as the Sporades. Made up of 11 islands of which only 4 are inhabited, this group is situated off the eastern shore of mainland Greece. Each island has a unique beauty and charm but as a group they are characterised by mountainous scenery and lush vegetation. The seas are some of the cleanest and bluest anywhere. Not surprisingly, Greece holidays here are renowned for quality beaches on the compact and utterly beguiling islands of Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos.

Dodecanese Islands

The twelve major islands of the Dodecanese and a number of smaller ones in the group are located close to Turkey at the most easterly point in the Aegean Sea. They are famous for their fascinating history, quaint villages and exciting nightlife as well as fabulous beaches and enviable climate. Olympic Holidays to the Dodecanese Islands of Rhodes, Kos, Symi, Halki and Kalymnos offer varied days of fun and sun.

Crete

Crete is Greece's single largest island providing a multitude of renowned resorts with something to suit everyone. It is an island of mountainous interiors and a coast with many beautiful beaches and rocky coves. Pretty villages and towns contain much to excite the traveller in craft boutiques, welcoming tavernas with delicious traditional cuisine and attractive harbours lined with cafes to while away an afternoon or two. Crete is the seat of the Minoan Civilisation and ancient ruins remain to give history lovers a treat. Here you'll find a lively atmosphere where you can party into the early hours and recoup during long days lounging on the beach.

North and East Aegean Islands

The island of Thassos, located at the top of the Aegean, has a bit of everything: sandy beaches, traditional villages, splendid views and historic sites. Nature's peaceful perfection gives way to more developed tourist traps and a rioutous nightlife. Lesvos, the third largest Greek islands, is lush with olive groves and forest. Largely untouched by tourism, it's the destination for a genuine Greek experience, and idyllic family holidays. Among this group, Samos is probably best known and most visited. With great beaches, good hotels and plenty to do, it is also spread with acres of forest surrounding peaceful hideaway coves.

Mainland Greece

The many attractions of the islands mean that holidays to the Greek mainland are often overlooked, but it matches all that the islands offer and has a majesty all its own. The Peloponnese area is often described as the true Greece. This is the birthplace of the Olympics and is very close to the capital, Athens. It is possessed of many tiny, traditional villages and great beaches as well as ancient sites to marvel at.

Tourism in Parga on the west coast, is low-key and its untainted character, along with magnificent landscapes and majestic beauty, adds to the appeal. Just north of Parga is the unspoilt resort of Sivota again an area of outstanding beauty where pine forests and olive trees grow in abundance.

But perhaps the best known of the mainland resorts is Halkidiki in northeastern Greece, a perfect destination for quieter family holidays. It sits southeast of the city of Thessaloniki, Greece's second largest city, and is made up of three fingers of land resembling the trident of Poseidon, God of the sea, appropriately piercing the Aegean. It offers sunny, golden beaches punctuated with deep, untouched, picturesque gulfs where pine covered hills descend to sheltered bays, and tiny, fishing villages thrive with nothing to disturb the pervading sense of tranquility.

Thronging with sightseers all year round, the renowned historic attractions of Athens are within a pedestrianized area at the heart of the city including the Acropolis and Parthenon and many other monuments, theatres and museums. The oldest city in Europe, Athens wears its age well, tolerating the ebullience of its younger inhabitants with the pleasure and wisdom of an indulgent grandfather. Packed with shops, restaurants, nightclubs and street cafes, time will fly as you cram it all in.

Holidays in Greece - Things to see

Greece holidays are perfect for exploring a rich historical heritage; regardless of which of our Greece holidays you choose, the signs and reminders of ancient Greece are never far away. Below is just a selection of the many places of interest to visit during your Greece holidays:-

Melissani Cave: Take a boat trip underground in Kefalonia to experience the magic atmosphere of this cave enclosing a subterranean lake surrounded by trees. Named after the nymph Melissanthi, sunlight streams through the cave top illuminating the shimmering, turquoise water on which boats appear to levitate. The other-wordliness is enhanced by relics featuring nymphs and dolphin-shaped stalactites. Visit between noon and 2pm to catch the light effects.

Corfu Archaeological Museum: The museum contains a wealth of archaeological finds from Corfu, including many from the Temple of Artemis in Corcyra (the ancient capital) on the peninsula south of modern Corfu Town.

Samaria Gorges: The longest gorge in Europe, and second longest is the world after the Grand Canyon, is to be found on the largest of the Greek islands, Crete. The gorge cuts a swathe through the White Mountains and is teeming with wildlife including an incredible display of wildflowers in spring.

Thessaloniki: Not to be missed during your Greece holiday to Halkidiki is a visit to Greece's second largest city, Thessaloniki, home to the fascinating Archaeological Museum containing ancient marble statues and gold jewellery originating from Macedonia. The stunning Byzantine churches here are recognised as UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Symi Harbour: In a land of picturesque sights, Symi harbour tops the charts. A deep and wide natural inlet and a busy, thriving port, it owes its good looks to the cluster of sea captains' houses in a riot of pastel colours ascending all sides. The harbour comes alive at night when the lights of bars and tavernas twinkle in the water. For a truly panoramic view, climb the 450 Kali Strata steps and catch your breath in the pretty village of Chorio at the top.

Hippocrates Plane Tree: Picnic at the foot of the oldest tree in Europe, located in Kos. Still standing thanks to extensive supports, this tree is said to be the Tree of Hippocrates where he once taught his students.

Olympia: Rediscovered in 18th century in the West Peloponnese, Olympia is the birthplace of the Olympic Games started in 776 BC to honour the god, Zeus. The area is full of historical attractions including The Temple of Hera, Stadium, a holy place for sport activities dedicated to Zeus holding about 20,000 spectators, the temple of Zeus, Prytaneion (site of the eternal flame) and many more.

Medieval Rhodes Town: The old town area of Rhodes is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Between the Palace of the Grand Master and the Archaeological Museum, the Street of the Knights, was the main street of administrative and military buildings and functions in the Knights' era. The city of Rhodes is dominated by the medieval castle which overlooks the harbour, built in the 14th century by the Knights of St John.

Monasteries of Meteora: North of the Pelion Peninsular, Meteora is renowned for the breathtaking complex of Eastern Greek Orthodox monasteries built on natural sandstone pillars and appearing to defy the laws of physics; the name means `suspended'. It is has been used as a location in films and inspired much music and literature.

Shipwreck at Smugglers Cove: Certainly most famous landmark in Zakynthos and the centrepiece of many entrancing photographs.

Things to do on a Holiday in Greece

Watersports: In almost every resort you will find a range of watersport facilities ranging from paragliding to windsurfing with Vassiliki, Lefkada hosting one of Europe's largest windsurfing centres. Waterskiing is very popular in Greece and there are over 30 waterskiing schools in Greece. Another great way to spend the day is to hire a small boat and picnic on isolated beaches only accessible by sea.

Snorkeling and Scuba Diving: Snorkeling is possible pretty much anywhere and, with the benefit of the clear crystal waters, is a great way to see observe the plethora of underwater wildlife in close up. However, to go scuba diving, it is necessary to book lessons with one of the many recognised diving schools as independent scuba diving is forbidden.

Hiking: The stunning scenery makes holidays in Greece a paradise for walking and hiking. As temperatures can be high in summer, the best time of year for activity holidays is in April or May when you will be rewarded by the carpet of wild flowers on the mountain sides. The autumn months of September and October are also cooler and so ideal for exploring. Hiking in the magnificent Samaria Gorge, Crete can also be quite exhilarating.

Golf: Although Greece is a relative newcomer on the golf scene, courses are now to be found in Rhodes, Corfu, Crete, Athens and Halkidiki.

Rock climbing: is becoming more popular in Greece, particularly in Crete, Kalymnos, the Pelion Peninsular and at Meteora.

Cycling: is also becoming increasingly poular and is a great way to get off the beaten track and discover more traditional Greek villages.

Eating/Drinking During Greece Holidays

Greece holidays are truly a paradise for food lovers; speciality dishes include keftedes (meatballs with oregano and mint), dolmades (rice and herbs wrapped in vine leaves) and souvlaki (grilled skewers of meat). Try a Greek meze (a selection of different Greek dishes to taste a little of everything). To compliment your meal, restaurants offer a number of delicious, inexpensive local wines varying from area to area. Or try a glass of ouzo, Greece's national drink.

Major resorts provide a wide variety of bars and restaurants with something to suit all tastes, from all-night discos and international restaurants to cosy little tavernas serving typical Greek fare. Nightlife in the smaller resorts tends to centre round the latter where the charm lies in their authenticity and more traditional feel.

Getting Around on Greece Holidays

Taxis: Taxis are metered and are in plentiful supply in the resorts.

Interurban Buses: There are various bus companies linking all major towns, with daily routes at specified intervals.

Urban Buses: These operate frequently during daytime and in certain tourist areas, summer timetables are extended until midnight.

Bicycles: Bikes are available for hire in most resorts.

Greece Holidays Shopping

While on Greece holidays you'll be able to find shops and shopping centres where you can purchase a huge range of items from clothing to jewellery and DVDs. If you're looking for mementoes of your trip, souvenir shops are plentiful where you can purchase a fantastic selection of local produce including wines, pottery, leather goods, hand-made jewellery, religious icons and embroidery.

The major cities and resorts offer a greater choice of shops and places to go to enjoy a full day's retail therapy; the comparatively low prices make Greece holidays perfect for shopaholics to indulge their pleasure without breaking the bank.

We have just returned from Kos.  We booked an all inclusive 7 night holiday through Olympic to Iberostar Family Hotel in Psaldi.  We had a fantastic time.  The hotel was very clean, with large apartments and superb views over the Agean Sea.  The staff were pleasent and helpful, especially the Animation Team who provide the entertainment throughout the day and evening - nothing was too much trouble.  Considering the number of guests the restaurant had to cater for, the food was good and varied.  Kos town was a short bus ride away, with good shopping and eating places.  Overall a good family hotel.

I've just been looking at the online brochure, and I'm thinking about Plakias, and Kostas Chrysoula apartments, again.  After taking holidays in many places, I'm now stuck on the town and the apartments.  Plakias is a gem, and Kostas and Chrysoulla are the names both of lovely people and of a great place to stay.  I've taken family for breaks and lived in the town for a time.  Kostas Chrysoulla has converted all of the people I've met into friends and fans.  Villa Dora is also really good, especially the 3 bed studios in the top floor.  Check out the online forums to get a little of the mood of the area, and then just go.  Superb.

Laid-back was invented by the Greeks, most especially for the beautiful Halkidiki resorts. All are delightful with The Meliton, without doubt, the jewel in the Halkidiki crown.

Paxos..fantastic! We stayed at the Bastas complex and it was perfect. Beautiful views from a lovely pool bar set at the top of the hotel. The family that run the hotel are so welcoming and friendly, the staff were great and did everything to make sure our holiday was exactly that,a relaxing break! Our rooms where more than comfortable clean and spotless throughout our stay, with all that we needed to cater for ourselves. Dana who runs the pool bar serves the best fresh lemon juice in Paxos that is a must to try! She also serves a more than enjoyable range of meals and fare from the pool bar and nothing is to much trouble,a real pleasure to eat there. Our travel rep Tracey was brilliant, every aspect of our travel and sea transfers to the island where organized brilliantly and we received such a warm welcome.Paxos is such a beautiful peaceful island, stunning scenery, fabulous beaches..we just had a fantastic time. Will travel again with Olympic for sure and importantly as a family,we cant believe we could afford this quality holiday at the price we paid. Thank-you Olympic it was splendid from start to finish!

    Faliraki....Rhodes....The only place to Holiday!!
The Moscha Apartments in Faliraki, Rhodes are Fabulous! We return here every year and have made lots of friends, both locally & with other return visitors! The owners...Stamos, Christula & their 2 lovely daughters are very friendly & helpful! Their apartments & pool area are always spotless and well maintained. Maria & the other cleaners are also very friendly & helpful. Location of apts are ideal as you are close to the beach, which is nice and quiet, but you are still within walking distance to the main beach & the town. There are some fabulous & inexpensive restaurants (Victoria & Manolis) on your doorstep! The owner, Lakis, in Victoria will really look after you and so will all the guys in Manolis! Faliraki has a lot to offer whether you are looking for a busy or quiet holiday!! And last but not least Aussie Steve (Night time Barman in the Moscha!) will be the icing on the cake for making your holiday! Hi Steve, see you in Sept!

Over the past 10 years we've been taking holidays with Olympic holidays.. Lesvos, Skiathos, Lefkada, Mykonos and this year booked for Kefalonia.. We've never had a bad experience and found all our holidays great value.. If it wasn't for Olympic we would never been able to visit all the wonderful destinations.. Looking forward to Kefalonia and the Buena Vista in June.. :0)

Returning to Crete to the Iberostar Creta Panorama Mare at the end of May. This will be my third visit to the hotel. It is so relaxing, infact it can be any thing you wish it to be! On the go with the animation team, taking part in the activities or simply soaking up the sun! One thing im sure of, it is to a very high standard. The food is excellent, rooms are to a great standard...Iberostar after all!

Go to Skiathos. It is an beautiful island. Koukanaries is an amazing place with the best beaches in the world. The Muses has the best prawns with cheese ever. Can't wait to go again.

  11. Olympic Holidays Olympic Holidays at 05:06 am, 28 June 2012

Went to Stoupa again after 12 years away.  We stayed at the Madena Apartments, a very low-key and homely place.

The location was perfect, close to the beach and the restaurants, but set back a little from all the hustle and bustle.  There was a bit of a trek to the local hypermarket, but the bakery was just a short stroll.

The people in Stoupa are so friendly, both locals and holidaymakers that it is a pleasure to be there.

The resort has loads of wonderful restaurants, a beautifully well-kept beach and sea front - but do not tell anyone else; such a wonderful place deserves to be kept a secret.

  12. Olympic Holidays Olympic Holidays at 10:06 am, 28 June 2012

Just returned from Molyvos, Lesvos. Had a fantastic holiday, stayed at the Eryphilli, wonderful hotel, cheerful, friendly and helpful staff. What a beautiful island and Molyvos is picture perfect. Food was great. Took loads of photos and have many happy memories.
Ready to book again for next year.

Just returned from my first visit to Stilivi, stayed at the Georgia Apartments  which is run by two of the most friendliest people you could ever wish to meet nothing was to much trouble, clean place with a very central location just minutes from the centre of town.would recommend the Georgia for a cheap and cheerful relaxing holiday

  14. Olympic Holidays Olympic Holidays at 08:06 am, 30 June 2012

Just returned from a week at Penelope apartments in Elounda and had a great time.  Penelope is friendly and very helpful if you want to know about the area.  Beautiful views from both room and pool. She serves snacks from pool bar until about 8 or 9 pm and this was good for a quick meal as we arrived quite late the first night.  The accommodation is quite basic but has everything you need.  The beds were a bit too hard for us but we still had a really good time and met some lovely people around the pool bar. Elounda  is still a small village with an unspoilt atmosphere around the picturesque harbour. There are many tavernas along the main road and on the sea front and around the harbour.  It took us about 15 mins to walk to harbour area its only a gradual hill down to the village but we live in Yorkshire Dales and are used to walking much steeper hills!  The only drawback to this holiday was the extremely long transfer of over 2 and a half hours!

  15. Olympic Holidays Olympic Holidays at 07:07 pm, 1 July 2012

Just returned from another fantastic week at the Xanthi Apartments, Kolios, Skiathos. Matina and Bill are the best hosts you could wish for. Outstanding views, can't recommend enough!

  20. Olympic Holidays Olympic Holidays at 08:07 am, 10 July 2012

We booked a last minute holiday to Skiathos through Olympic and could not fault anything from startto finish. Very impressed with the ease of booking online and the extras available (seats and transfers). Was apprehensive as the tickets were to be collected at Gatwick and I haven't had to do that for years but the staff were swift in finding our tickets and all went smoothly with the transfer from Skiathos airport to the apartments and vice versa, also our rep Steve was very informative.
We will definitely be recommending Olympic and will hope to book again!
We stayed in the Achladies area at Yalis apartments, the area was perfect as we were a short bus water taxi ride from town and there was lots of beaches to choose from including little banana (if you like to bathe naturally)
Restaurants were great and all of the staff couldn't do more to make us feel welcome, the apartments are basic but the pool area and bar makes up for that and we had many great days around the pool and nights at the bar.

  21. Olympic Holidays Olympic Holidays at 08:07 am, 10 July 2012

Just returned from a week on Kos.   DO NOT LET THE MEDIA FOCUS ON THE FINANCIAL CRISIS PUT YOU OFF!   Life on the islands is as it always was and the welcome is as good as ever.   They miss us Brits and want us back.   Prices are better than last year.

  22. Olympic Holidays Olympic Holidays at 06:07 pm, 10 July 2012

We have just returned from a holiday in Santorini and would confidently recommend it. The temperature, beaches, places of interest, architecture, food, atmosphere, not to mention accommodation, are truly superb. Loved every minute

  23. Olympic Holidays Olympic Holidays at 08:07 am, 11 July 2012

Just got back from our Honeymoon in the Aeolos Hotel, Skopelos. Nice hotel in a good location.  However don't believe everything they say on their website, the do not have laundry service and I never saw a trouser press.  Other than those little issues the staff are really nice, the Hotel is of a similar standard to what you expect in Greece (shower needed to be repaired etc).  But if you go expecting a few anomalies it's a good place to go.

  24. Olympic Holidays Olympic Holidays at 10:07 am, 11 July 2012

Returned this week from two weeks in Hersonissos, Crete. Stayed at the Hotel Albatross which is very convenient for the town and beaches. The hotel was exceptional regarding accommodation and staff friendliness; they could not do enough for us. Breakfasts were fine with lots of choice. Dinner was average and sometimes dishes were cool. Everything was very clean with good hygiene. The room was large in size with good bathroom, large bed, and towels changed daily and rooms made up also daily. Our balcony was too small but all the others were much larger. (We tried to change but the hotel was fully booked and we did not require the balcony much anyway).Be sure to book a 'superior room' in the new building as the old rooms apparently were too small and in need of a major overhaul.
Hersonissos is a lovely spot with an interesting harbour and any number of well priced restaurants (strongly recommend La Scala) to choose from with lovely views over the harbour. It is also well placed for trips out to the surrounding countryside and places of historical interest. Also lots of boat trips from the harbour. Heraklion is a big city with all that that brings.
We were originally booked to fly with Strategic Airways but recommend you read the reviews. We changed to Monarch who were first class. No problems with Gatwick either ways
All in all a very enjoyable two weeks and we will return for sure.

  25. Olympic Holidays Olympic Holidays at 05:07 pm, 11 July 2012

Just returned from Holiday in Kos, stayed at Iberostar.  Most enjoyable, beautiful swimming pool,  amazing sea views of Aegean and the Turkish coast.  So much food difficult to decide on diet for the day, amazing breakfasts and dinners.  Would certainly return if ever possible..

  26. Olympic Holidays Olympic Holidays at 12:07 pm, 12 July 2012

Had one of the best and most relaxing holidays ever! We have never been to Parga before and to be honest had not heard of it before this holiday. Our Olympic rep was new to the job but nothing was too much trouble and Akis studios were spotlessly clean and the family made us feel like we were staying with old friends. I can't recomend this holiday enough to do it justice.

  27. Olympic Holidays Olympic Holidays at 08:07 am, 13 July 2012

Just returned from our second stay at Zante Star Hotel in Tsilivi, Zante.  The owners and all of the staff are very friendly and helpful.  The rooms, like the whole hotel, are cleaned daily.  The Greek night and quiz and games night at the hotel are great fun.  Tsilivi has a nice beach and plenty of good tavernas to choose from.
The only drawbook to holidays with Olympic Holidays is their use of the Strategic Airlines who from our experiences over the last year or so would be better named as Unstrategic Airlines from the number of delays we have experienced with them.

  28. Olympic Holidays Olympic Holidays at 09:07 am, 13 July 2012

Just had a weeks holiday in Zante Grrece resort tsilivi was a fantastic holiday weather was great, place really pretty and locals were so friendly.  Park Hotel was great owner even moved to to a double room at no extra cost as in booking we chose twin by mistake, even kept us some food on our arrival as our  plane was delayed.  Beach was beautiful large sandy beach and really shallow waters perfect for young children.  Locals were really lovely would always chat and in shops were always interested in where you had travelled from and if you liked Zante they seemed really pruod of their country.  All in all cant wait to go back SOON!!  Thank you Olympic Holidays class holiday!

Only just returned from 2 sun drenched weeks in Sissi , Crete.
The resort is a little quiet for a family , but very picturesque, with the best Sunsets I've seen
anywhere. Prices in Greece are definately DOWN this year. We stayed at Zygos Appartments,
and were treat like family. Rooftop pool is small but functions adequately for the number of guests.
This is the first time we have travelled with Olympic, but their service and resort reps have put the big
companies to shame.  Best holiday we've had for years !

just returned from perrisa in santorini, greece. wonderful holiday and stayed at anezina villas which in my opinion was one of the best accomadations we have stayed in and we go to greece twice a year for the past 11 years. the owners are brilliant, marco (owners son) who ran the pool bar was very helpful and polite and extreemly freindly. the accomadation was cleaned every day and fresh bedding and towles every other day and tolet rolls supplied regularly which believe me is VERY rare. normally one is supplied when you arrive and then you have to buy them. all in all a beautiful area and brilliant accomadation. would reccomend this holiday !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just returned from Bella Vista in Stalis, Crete.  Had a wonderful time. Beautiful apartments in lovely location with very friendly and helpful owners and bar staff. Couldn't fault it. Resort of Stalis was just the right size with a great beach and lots of nice bars and restaurants. Will definitely be back.

Anavadia Hotel in Kolymbia, Rhodes, is to be recommended. Beautiful, clean, modern place to stay with friendly staff and good food. Although it's a bit of a walk into the centre of the small resort, you do benefit from a bus stop right outside the hotel, with a regular - and cheap - services to Rhodes Town, Lindos and other destinations. Hot tub was a delight after spending to much time in the sun. Beautiful countryside views from our balcony. Wish we could have stayed for another week.

We stayed in the Alamis apartments in Tsilivi, Zante.
Great place to stay. Big, clean apartments, friendly staff and a lovely pool area.
Brilliant resort, great for families, lovely beaches.
Would return in future, bargain! :-)

just returned from Kylevas Beach Hotel in Kylevas, Crete. Had a fantastic holiday in a lovely greek village location. The hotel was beautiful, food and  facilities  were excellent, staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel was a few steps from a nice beach and a number of local tavernas. I would certantly use Olympic again andd would recommened this holiday to couples, families, the elderly and disabled. We are looking forward to revisiting as soon as we can

Just returned from the Aquis Marine Resort and Waterpark in Kos. The Hotel was fantastic! Everything you need from waterslides to wave machines for the children (and adults) to a quite relaxing pool. This place is a must whether you are a family or a couple its perfect! The food was wonderful and the staff very friendly. Perfect all round.

Just returned from 2 weeks in Crete. We stayed at the Porto Platanias Hotel in Patanias. The hotel was first class, spotlaess, food exceptional and the staff extremely helpful and friendly.

The beach is sandy and only about 35 meteres from the rear entrance to the hotel. Would highly recommend.

Just returned from Sandy Villa's, Perissa, Santorini. We had a lovely holiday, hotel very clean and Sandy a lovely lady. Holiday was spolit at the end when my mobile phone was stolen along with all our euros! Thankfully it happened at the end and not the beginning. Will be going back, hopefully in September!

Just returned from two excellent weeks in Roda , Corfu. We stayed at Theodoros/Fiona and found that everything exceeded our expectations. The appartment was fine and was cleaned efficiently and regularly. The location was good with plenty of options for eating etc and the staff at the  bar/restaraunt/ pool  were friendly and efficient.
The pool was excellent and loungers etc were generally available.
Very good value for money and we would recommend Theos and probably go again.

Came back from Crete last night from HUY. Spolied by Aegean Airways - they fed us as a matter of course ( no pun) and also kept us hydrated with soft drinks and a tiny sweet on take off.....and no extra to pay....just like the good old days of flying.
Stayed in Aghio Pelagia at the Hotel Panorama which did exactly what it said on the box. A large efficiently run hotel with fine attantion to detail set in craggy Cretian cliffs
There was a shuttle bus that ran quite regualrly to the beach which was a fair walk and steep but my daughter and I used to to burn off the calories from the food and puds and use our walk as exercise.
Entertainments were in the hands of a Mr Cheryl Cole look alike with the energy of Chico. Honestly his aquarobics have to be seen and experienced. The same character come night time morphed in to the Pied Piper....the kids just loved him and his dance/song repetoire.
Laying on the beach enjoying the blue Aegean....ok - reflection of the sky, but don't spoil my reverie....already plotting going back there later in the season.

Back from a fantastic 2 weeks in Elounda, Crete. I stayed at the Pinelope which is great location on the hillside with the most wonderful view. It is very peaceful and quiet, the pool is lovely, the apartments are clean and comfortable but fairly basic. Pinelope herself is a super woman, always cheerful and helpful. Elounda itself has a full range of eateries, from cheap Greek tavernas to good quality restaurants, plus plenty of bars. Loved it all!

Back from one week in Rhodes.  Weather very very hot.  Stayed at Finas Hotel Apartments.  Air Con charges are rip-off.  Virtually impossible to stay in the apartment without air conditioning as hotel has a policy(?) of not providing any fans!  And Finas Hotel charge 50 Euros a week for one small totally ineffective and useless air con unit that was wall mounted in the bedroom. Nothing in the sitting room, kitchen or the bathroom.  Also no TV, iron or ironing board in the apartment.  Very basic kitchen.  Just two electric hobs. No oven, grill, microwave or a toaster!  If you want to watch TV, you have to go to the bar and spend money on drinks at the same time.  Also, note room not cleaned or serviced on Sundays as all cleaners are on holiday on Sundays.  Rhodes is wonderful and may visit again but will not be staying at Finas!

    • Olympic Holidays Olympic Holidays at 09:07 am, 22 July 2012

We will investigate your comments with the resort manager and hotelier regarding the air-con and apologise for this. We do not advertise TV, iron, oven, grill, microwave or toaster and it is clearly stated that the cooking facilities are 'basic.' It is normal for rooms in Greek self catering units not to be cleaned on a Sunday and we do not advertise that rooms are cleaned every day.

Have just arrived home from spending a wonderful week in Rhodes. We stayed at the Ixia Grand in a Superior 2/3 room with garden view. Although on booking we were assured the room was a twin bedded room it was infact a king size double with a sofa bed. It took a day of pestering for hotel staff to make the sofa bed up with linen. Once done the room was tended daily and was kept clean. We were expecting a DVD player in our room so took our own dvd's with us as previous reports said none were available at the hotel. It took 4 days of asking before a DVD player was provided but that was due to the number of players available already being used.

The food in this hotel was varied and plentiful and I would find it hard to believe ANYONE would have cause to complain.

The weather is guaranteed to be hot so having a sun bed and shade available was marvellous, not once were we unable to find either. The pool areas are clean and there is always a pool bar or lobby bar open for refreshments.

Our only cause for complaint would be the poor attendance of our tour rep. Her introductory meeting was spent talking about herself and her cat!!! We were promised Olympic Magazines, information sheets and information regarding our return flights. Nothing turned up and it was only after returning from a days tour (one that she had booked for us) that we found out we were to have attended a pre-departure meeting. Only when settling our account were we handed a slip of paper with our return flight details on. Prepared by our rep it showed the wrong flight details. This meant contact by hotel staff to Olympic Tours for flight details. It was obvious the hotel staff had dealt with mishaps by this rep before as there were a number of raised eyebrows when this reps name was mentioned. Maybe a change of hotel rep is in order, one who's clients matter.

However, this did not spoil our Greek holiday or our stay at this hotel as we intend to return there in the future.

Back from a week in kefalonia, staying at white rocks hotel in lassi, beautifully newly upgraded, & with stunning views of the bay. Couldn't ask for more, staff efficient and friendly, food good- buffet style with lots of choice. Would go back.

Just returned from the Kipriotis Panorama Suites Hotel in Psalidi and whilst the hotel rooms were great - we upgraded to a junior suite and were on an all inclusive basis, the food was very boring buffet style and guests were only given the option of dining in the Italian and Asian restaurants (they were the same restaurant really) on two occasions.  I would recommend the hotel but not the food.

Suffering withdrawal symptoms after returning from a special holiday at the Xanthi Studios, Kolios, Skiathos. Matina and Bill were fantastic hosts and good fun. Room was super and had great open views across the valley, great to sit out on balcony have the occasional beer/ouso, read and take in the moment! The island is tremendous with the Xanthi very conveniently (and quietly) placed to catch bus to town or ther beaches - but the local beach is so good we stayed there mainly. Will be back - thanks again Bill & Matina - Andrew and Paula Varley.

There’s possibly never been a better time to visit Greece and her beautiful islands.

Simon Calder’s recent article in the Independent says:
“Don’t believe everything you read about Greece: the Country is open to visitors as it’s ever been. As UK travellers have proved time after time, the best time to visit a destination is when the rest of the world
mistakenly believes that it is risky/closed/desolate. Empty seats – on planes, around hotel swimming pools and at harbourside bars – are perishable resources that the owners are selling off right now.  Cheap, certainly – but cheerful?”

    http://www.independent.co.uk/t...

Give Greece your vote this summer!

Leigh Holmwood who recently visited Rhodes wrote in The Sun - “Despite the economic crisis rocking the country, its holiday destinations remain open and the hospitality is more welcoming than ever.  I spent a week at the beginning of June in Rhodes, a popular tourist island.  While there might have been more abandoned shops and bars than before the financial hurricane, the island gave off the air of being far removed from the
    troubles.”

Just back from a great week in Pefkos Rhodes stayed at the Finas Hotel which was an ideal base & resort to explore the island . We hired a car for 3 days 60 euros and drove to the south tip where the 2 seas meet the rough waters collide with the calm waters very tranquil and a must to see .we journeyed north stopping off at lindos very picturesque and many other resorts during the 3 days including a wander round the castle in Rhodes town very compelling . all in all we had a great time . anybody looking for an ideal resort to stay in Rhodes then Pefkos is the place to stay . . .Ian & Sue.

Just returned from the lovely Aliki Studios in Parga, Greece. The apartments are very clean and spacious and the staff are lovely. There is everything you need in the apartments including a kettle, etc. The garden abounded with lovely flowers which gave off some gorgeous aroma's. Caroline, the Olympic rep, was very good too.Just a 10 minute steady walk to the beach and Parga town where there are ample shops and a plentiful supply of restaurants. 'To Souli' restaurant is the best - the food is superb, the staff are brilliant and the prices are reasonable - with Ouzo free. Walk up to the castle and down to Valtos beach or ride the 'Noddy' train up to Ali Pasha's castle which is very interesting. You can also take boat trips to Paxos, Antipaxos and Corfu to name a few. A lovely place all round!

  61. Olympic Holidays Olympic Holidays at 04:08 pm, 6 August 2012

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Demetra Studios. Much of what has already been written by previous Reviews still stands so any reader of this report may find my comments useful if only as an update to what has already been written.
    Demetra Studios
These studios are placed in an excellent location just minutes walk away from the shops, restaurants, bars and supermarkets and yet far enough away from the ‘main drag’ to be slightly away from the street which can become busy, especially during the evening period. As you come out of the apartments (to your left) you will find a reasonable sized supermarket which will cater for most of your needs. Just a few paces on you will find the bakers where fresh bread products can be purchased from early morning.
The apartments themselves are separated into three blocks although they are joined by a pretty outside main corridor, which in effect brings the whole complex together. They number off from numbers one & two which are ground level and a few yards away from the road. There are bushes outside of the lower apartments which provide you with some privacy. The studios then number upwards until you reach the back block which overlooks the harbour. Each studio has sufficient space outside for two chairs and a table. The rooms are reasonable in size and sufficient for a holiday stay. There is a fridge and cooking hob although cooking utensils are somewhat limited. In our opinion the best studio to get is to the rear of the premises where there is an excellent harbour view. Unfortunately we got studio 1 which we feel was maybe one of the ones not to get if you get a choice. There are six studios to the rear including the famous Number 12, although only 5 of these are available as one is occupied by the aged owners of the complex, who are both very Greek and very nice. There did not seem to be any complaints regarding room 12 and noise whilst we were there as I think this may now have been sorted out by the Rep (Phil). We went to the bar most evening for a late and sometimes very late drink and only on one occasion did I think the music being played was a little on the loud side. There is a nice atmosphere in the studio complex and because of the way it is laid out you are continually passing each other and therefore making general conversation with everyone is easy and relaxed.
    Olympic Representative
The Rep for the complex is Phil. Phil provides and excellent service and will provide you with all sorts of information about restaurants, places to go etc. If you have any complaints he is the man to see when he turns up on one of his regular visits and will do his very best for you.
    Car Hire
Car hire can be a little expensive, although by shopping around you can reduce the cost. We saved nearly 50% compared with some of the bigger firms although it must be said the vehicle you hire may not be as pretty as those from the more well known companies however when you give it back after 3 days does it really matter.
    Trips
We did not book any trips whilst we were there although we did have a day out on the ferry which takes you to two locations and is fantastic value. Word of warning, when you arrive at the point you want to alight get off quick. One couple we were talking to were a bit slow and ended up not getting off and waving to us from the upper deck as the ferry pulled away.
    Restaurants
There are lots and lots of restaurants many have already been recommended in previous reports. Some are very busy and service at times can be slow so make an evening of it and enjoy.
