Pyrgos HolidaysPyrgos Holidays at a glanceHighlights
At the highest point of the island and only 8km from Fira, is situated Pyrgos. The imposing castle, Kasteli, the once medieval fort of the island, impresses every visitor. It is located in the middle of the village, since people, after the end of pirate invasions, started to build their houses outside the castle walls. So, instead of the castle surrounding the village, we see the opposite. It is worth visiting the monastery of Prophet Elia and Theotokaki, the church of Virgin Mary, the most ancient medieval structure in the island.
