| Banjul is the Capital of Gambia and stands at the mouth of the River Gambia, Banjul is a fairly small city adding to its vibrant village atmosphere. At its heart lies Albert Market - a bustling place made up of a collection of small stalls where visitors can pick up local crafts, batiks, silver, clothes and exotic fruits. Hotels are located outside the town on the beach at the estuary of the Gambia River. Banjul was found by the British in 1816 and is the hub of Gambian economic activity. The area is Gambia's headquarters for the important peanut and fishing industries. Banjul is the home to the African Heritage Museum which houses a collection of African art, visitors can support the local economy by buying the works of art. |
