Important Notice - Key Facts
Your travel Insurer, under the Association of British General Business Code of
Practice, has to bring to your attention some of the important features of your
travel insurance policy.
- Policy Document: A copy of the policy will be sent with your holiday invoice. This document contains full details of what is and is not covered and the conditions of the cover. You should read the policy very carefully.
- Conditions and Exclusions: There are conditions and exclusions which apply to individual sections and general exclusions and conditions which apply to the whole of the policy.
- Health: The policy contains conditions about the health of the people traveling and other people upon whose health the trip may depend.
- Property Claims: These claims are settled on an indemnity basis (the value of the goods at the time you lose them), not on 'new for old' or replacement cost basis, unless otherwise stated in the policy.
- Policy Limits: Most sections of the policy have limits on the amount that the insurer will pay under that section. Some sections also include other limits, for example, for any one item or for valuables in total.
- Policy Excess: Under most sections of the policy, claims will be subject to an excess. This means that you will be responsible for that part of the claim. The amount you pay is the excess.
- Reasonable Care: You need to take all reasonable care to protect yourself and your property as you would if you weren't insured.
- Complaints: This insurance policy includes a complaint procedure which tells you what steps to take if you wish to make a complaint.
- Dangerous Sports and Pastimes: If you are going to take part in dangerous sports or pastimes where there is a risk of injury, check that this insurance covers you.
- Cooling-Off: This insurance contains a 'cooling off' period of 14 days during which you can return it and get a refund if you have a justifiable reason for being dissatisfied with the cover provided.
- What to do in the event of a Medical Emergency: If you have the misfortune to have an accident or suffer an illness during your holiday a 24-hour assistance service is provided by Global Response. An experienced assistance coordinator will deal with you and will ensure that, where necessary, hospitals will be contracted (and any necessary fees guaranteed), medical advisers consulted and, if needed, repatriation to the UK will be arranged.
