Alghero is pretty close to Fertilia Airport, which is well connected internationally by the low-cost airways companies such as Ryanair. This makes it possible for thousands of visitors to choose Alghero as an ideal destination. The beauty of the coastline and its surrounding nature, as well as warm temperatures throughout the year, make it easy to explore Alghero on foot. There are three main directions to follow in order to discover the centre of the town: the oldest patway to get through is between Via Gilbert Ferret and Via Roma, continue with the area around the Cathedral of Santa Maria and finally the district surrounding Piazza Civica (Civic Square). Across the seaside, visitors can see the ancient bastions and towers built to protect the city from foreign invasions.
Stroll around Alguer Vella - Walk around the historic center leaving the sea behind your back is one of the first things to do in Alghero. Alguer Vella: the historic centre is called this way by its inhabitants: a succession of cobbled small streets and buildings in Catalan-Aragonese style, surrounded by the walls. In the centre are located the cathedral, some museums, ice-cream parlors, boutiques, restaurants, wine bars and many shops that also sell typical products.
Via Ferrata del Cabirol - Going up the 700 stairs of the Escala del Cabirol is one of the typical things to do in Alghero, especially if it is the first time you visit it. July is the hottest month in Alghero with an average temperature of 24°C (75°F) and the coldest is January at 10°C (50°F) with the most daily sunshine hours at 9 in February. The wettest month is November with an average of 90mm of rain. The best month to swim in the sea is in August when the average sea temperature is 25°C (77°F).
