Our opinion: A great value choice in a prime location for an active, sun-filled holiday.
The Hi Gardenia Park Hotel, lives up to its name with its plentiful expanses of green full of flowering shrubs - beautiful gardens where guests can stroll or sunbathe. It enjoys an excellent location right by the sea on the Caravajal beach with the resorts of Benalmadena and Marbella within easy reach. The bus stops directly outside the hotel and the train station is across the road. But before you set off to explore, take a look at all the hotel has to offer. To start with, there's an attractive hexagonal swimming pool in the grounds, the focus for many organised aquatic activities. You may be invited to join in some beach volleyball or test your aim at archery, too. Air rifle-shooting, pool and table-tennis are other alternatives for fun. Flanking the pool are inviting royal blue sun loungers and white parasols for a lazy day's sunbathing. Children have their own pool, and enclosed playground, and everyone can avail themselves of refreshments from the pool bar. Rooms here are simply but elegantly furnished, spacious and spotlessly clean, and buffet meals are served three times a day.
You won't have to go far to find a golf course or horse-riding, cycle hire and a variety of watersports. For more cultural pursuits, the Picasso Museum, Malaga Cathedral and Sohail Castle can be explored, while colourful local markets provide a flavor of Andalucia. At the end of an active day, In Fuengirola a vibrant night scene fills the restaurants, bars and discos. Otherwise a nightcap at the Gardenia's bar is a tad less demanding.
