Things To See

The strange and mysterious prehistoric Stone Taulas: Holidays to Menorca would be incomplete without visiting the world renowned Taulas, these T shaped stone monuments set in a horseshoe shaped precinct and found only in Menorca have always defied rational explanation. There are many theories but studies point to them being a sort of stellar observation centre precisely aligned with the Southern Cross in their day.

The Cave of Es Mussol containing: In recent years several caves containing very interesting archaeological remains have been discovered that date back to 1200BC, the earliest dated remains found in Europe. The wooden faces have been dated 1200BC and were found in the cave of Es Mussol which would have been used as a sanctuary by people more closely related to the Celts than the Mediterranean.

Mahon, the capital of Menorca: During your holiday to Menorca why not visit the fascinating town of Menorca in the middle of the east coast of the island, 3 miles north of Es Castell and 2 miles from Mahon airport. The town sits on cliffs above an exceptionally long and deep natural harbour and is surrounded by beautiful farmland. Mahon has an attractive-looking centre whose history has bequeathed an intriguing mix of architectural styles. There are many interesting attractions including the gin distillery, the hippodrome, a small museum, the Church of Santa Maria with its vast church organ, and the prehistoric remains of Trepuco. The south of Mahon runs into the Menorca resort of Es Castell with its charmingly atmospheric harbour at Calas Fons.
