Murdeira is a popular retreat for those seeking a tranquil getaway.
Murdeira is a village positioned on the west coast, in the island of Sal. Only 10 minutes drive from the airport and the island’s capital, Espargos.
Murdeira now offers plenty of activities for an unforgettable holiday. Fishing, bird watching, boat trips, surfing and off-road jeep adventures are popular.
Murdeira was once a small settlement of farmers and fishermen but from the late 1990s started its transformation into a seaside tourist village in the region called "Aldeamento Turístico da Murdeira". The population grew as more houses were built and bought, mostly by island locals and some foreigners. The name now primarily refers to this semi-gated community.
The village nestles in the centre of a small cove beach inside the much larger Murdeira Bay, known for its rich sea life and a small coral reef. The bay is a marine reserve which forms a part of a reserve that includes Ilhéu Rabo de Junco. Humpback whales visit the bay each year during their mating season.
August is the hottest month in Murdeira with an average temperature of 27°C (81°F) and the coldest is January at 23°C (73°F) with the most daily sunshine hours at 9 in April. The wettest month is September with an average of 77mm of rain.
