Kos Budget Savers
Holidays in Kos are perfect for visitors dreaming of vibrant beach resorts, where an enviable range of water sports is always on offer. The resort facilities and sublime beaches also make this a popular venue for the perfect wedding or honeymoon. Make 2018 the year you say I do and choose a Kos Holiday for your annual getaway or celebrate your love abroad with a destination wedding or honeymoon.
The island is also the ideal choice for those in search of a little piece of traditional Dodecanese life and a quieter pace of life, with lots of hidden coves and sleepy villages to explore, among stunning scenery. Then you have Kos old town and its idyllic hilltop scenery which also make for truly memorable Greek holidays.
Why not pack a picnic and head off for a memorable excursion to Aliki Tigaki Salt Lake? This protected salt lake lies between the villages ofTingakiand Marmari on the northern coast and was once a working salt production factory. The lagoon is filled with fresh water and sea water and retains water year round, with evaporates and results in salt deposits. The area hosts a variety of flora and fauna, including migratory birds, such as pelicans and flamingos as well as aquatic animals such as water turtles and water snakes. Admire the beautiful bird life and combine with some time on the beach at Tingaki.
Pack a bag for Kefalos Beach, 43 kilometres from the cosmopolitan capital of the island, Kos Town. Surrounded by lush greenery, the waters here are a bit chilly, but are also the most crystal clear of all the island’s beaches. Stroll along the waterfront and pop into a taverna or two for some tasty Greek bites and look out at the lovely sea views. Combine your beach day with a visit to the Monastery of Agios Nikolaos which is only a short distance away. For endless sands, Marmari is a sandy haven, 20 kilometres south of Kos Town. Enchanting landscapes, blue seas and a sandy beach can be found there with lots of sunbeds and umbrellas and watersports facilities, as well as waterfront tavernas.
There’s more than enough to keep you busy on the island of Kos, but it’s such a good base from which to explore other neighbouring islands, it would be a shame not to do so. Rhodes, Kalymnos and Patmos are close by and you can hop over for a day trip. Or why not stay a little longer and spread your time between the islands? Kos combined with the island of Rhodes and simply stunning Symi are a popular choice and a great way to tick a few more islands off your Greek bucket list.
