Frequently asked questions

We are frequently asked questions about weddings to Cyprus and Greece, so to assist you with your decision to marry abroad with Olympic Holidays, we are sharing our answers to your questions. If you can't find the answer to your question below, then please feel free to speak to one of our Wedding Consultants.

Can far in advance can I book?

Wedding venues and hotels are now available to be booked for 2019. Contact our wedding consultants for more details.

What paperwork do we need to take?

There are a number of documents that you will need to take with you in order to get married abroad. Please see the section on legal documents, but do not hesitate to give us a call to clarify anything you're unsure of.

Will our wedding be legally recognised in the UK?

Your marriage, in all our destinations, will be recognised by British law and your certificate is proof of this. 

How early must we book our wedding?

We recommend that you book your wedding as soon as possible in order to avoid disappointment and to meet the criteria of the documentation required. For weddings in Greece we require at least FOUR months’ notice. For weddings in Cyprus there is no minimum notice as long as holiday dates and wedding dates are available (with the exception of religious ceremonies in Cyprus where a few months’ notice would be advisable).

Can I get married overseas if I have been divorced?

Yes, as long as you can provide legal proof, i.e. a decree absolute. The only exception to this is Catholic weddings in Cyprus.

We would like to renew our vows, can you help?

Yes of course we can. Renewal of Vows are currently available in Cyprus, Rhodes, Zante and Santorini and are a great way to celebrate a special anniversary.

What name must be used for the booking of the bride-to-be?

As the name on the booking must be the same as the passport, the bride-to-be should use her maiden name for both journeys.

Do we need witnesses?

Yes, you will need two witnesses over 18 years old. If you are travelling alone and require us to arrange witnesses we can of course do so free of charge. Please let us know prior to your departure.

How should we pack our wedding outfits and will there be extra luggage allowance?

We suggest that you pack your dresses and suits in a strong waterproof box or suitcase which can be placed in the aircraft hold. It is at the airline's discretion whether they allow you an extra luggage allowance for your wedding attire. We will give you the airline contact details so that you can make enquiries.

Will the date and time of our wedding be confirmed before we depart from the UK?

For Cyprus, we can give you a date and time for your wedding (normally within 2 weeks of receiving your booking form). It is very rare for this to change. For Greece, we are able to offer the date but not the time. Both are then confirmed in resort.

Do we have to stay in the same resort/hotel that we wish to get married in?

For Cyprus, there is plenty of flexibility with where you can stay. For example, you can choose to stay in any standard of accommodation and marry in a church or town hall. In some cases, you can stay in one hotel and marry in another as a non-resident (please ask us for a list within the destination of your choice). Greece is more restrictive as many town halls require couples to stay within their district.

Do our guests have to stay in the same hotel as us?

In most cases it is possible for your guests to stay in a different hotel. There are only one or two cases where a hotel stipulates that some of the guests are resident. We will guide you on this at the time of booking.

Can you organise the wedding reception for us?

We will be delighted to assist you with organising your wedding reception according to your requirements and budget. Receptions can normally take place in the hotel where you are staying, a local restaurant or taverna or even on a boat. However, there may be a few hotels that require you to have your reception there if you choose to marry in their grounds. The arrangements can be started in the UK but finalised and largely paid for in resort (we will let you know if any venues require a deposit before you go).

How do I go about arranging hair, make up and nails for my wedding?

We have sourced highly recommended hairdressers and beauticians in all our destinations. Once you have decided your requirements for your wedding day our Wedding Co-ordinators will make all the necessary appointments for you. This can wait until you get to your resort, but we will be happy to pass your decisions on, prior to your arrival.

Can we arrange pressing and storing of our outfits on arrival?

Most hotels offer a pressing service or can recommend one and there will be a charge for this, payable locally. At some hotels, it may be possible to store your wedding outfits and arrangements can be discussed on arrival.

What about flowers?

Flowers can be ordered through our Weddings Department before you depart from the UK, or from your Olympic Wedding Co-ordinator when you arrive in resort. Upgrades can be arranged in resort on pre-paid orders. We will be happy to contact resort to confirm exactly which flowers will be in season, if you have specific choices not shown in our lists.

What will our wedding cake be like?

Typically, this will be sponge, however upgrades to fruit cake can be made. We can obtain quotes to make your cake to your personal specifications, even popular cupcakes!

Will a separate room be provided to change into our wedding outfits, or for the groom to sleep in, the night before the wedding?

Subject to availability, the hotel may make a separate room available for the bride to change into her wedding outfit. There may be an additional charge for this facility. Similarly, if required we can make arrangements for the groom to have a different room the night before the wedding, at an additional cost which will be payable locally.

What will happen when we arrive in resort?

If you have booked your holiday with us you will be contacted by one of our representatives upon arrival at the airport, who will then give you a letter from your Wedding Co-ordinator with a meeting time (normally the next day). If you're arrangements with us are for a wedding only, a letter will be left for you at your accommodation. You'll meet with the Wedding Co-ordinator to discuss all your requirements to tailor make your wedding. In some cases, this may mean choosing the exact location of the wedding ceremony or any last-minute wedding additions and preparations. A time will be arranged for you to organise the legal formalities required, prior to your wedding. Wedding Co-ordinators will accompany guests to the Town Hall (transport costs are not included) to complete any declarations for the wedding licenses.
