Things to Do in Gambia
South Gambia Safari
Your day begins with a comfortable pickup from your hotel, followed by a scenic drive to the first village in the South of The Gambia. Here, you'll visit a lively local fish and vegetable market, offering a fascinating insight into the daily lives of the Gambian people, many of whom shop daily due to the lack of refrigeration in rural areas. From there, the journey continues to Yuna Village to meet Uncle John, a local palm wine tapper. You’ll have the chance to taste fresh palm wine, known as ‘jungle juice,’ and watch a live demonstration of how the strong local drink, also called ‘zum zum’ or ‘fire water,’ is made.
The tour then proceeds to a nearby village school, giving you an eye-opening glimpse into the education system and classroom conditions in The Gambia. Next, unwind with lunch at Paradise Beach in Sanyang, where you can relax, swim, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. After lunch, visit the Tanje Village Museum to explore Gambian culture, nature, and traditional craftsmanship through interactive exhibits and artisan demonstrations. Finally, stop at Tanje Fishing Village to observe the local fishing scene before heading back to your hotel, ending a day filled with culture, learning, and relaxation.
