Porto Heli at a glance

Sometimes referred to as the 'Greek Riviera', Porto Heli is a cosmopolitan resort in the Peloponnese region and is one of the most luxurious destinations in Greece.

Description

Many Athenians have summer houses in Porto Heli and it is a beloved haven of the rich and famous.  This upmarket, small seaside town has a harbour and marina, together with an array of restaurants and shops, and come dusk has a vivid nightlife.

The bay faces the ruins of the ancient city of Alieis. The acropolis and the ancient city of Alieis were unearthed in Porto Heli and the findings are showcased in the Archaeological Museum of Nafplio and the Kranidi Folk Art Museum.

The surrounding area of Porto Heli is filled with beautiful natural spots including small secluded coves and breathtaking beaches such as sandy Chinitsa and Kounoupi beach with its clear waters. Take a stroll along Ververoda Lake or swim in Ververontas Lagoon. Water sports, diving and hiking along one of the region’s old footpaths are just a few activities to take part in on a holiday in Porto Heli.

Kranidi town is just 6.6km from Porto Heli. Explore this beautiful, traditional village covered with olive groves and small forests, with its narrow streets and neoclassical houses. In this village you will find an exceptional folk museum. Frangthi cave is located on the north shore of Ermionida and is one of the most important prehistorical caves in the world.  It is well worth a visit.

Porto Heli makes a convenient base for excursions to the mainland. For example Ancient Epidaurus is only one hour away by car and is worth a visit. From Porto Heli neighbouring Spetses and other Saronic islands are also within easy reach. Road trips to the eastern Peloponnese are also possible.

Best Time To Visit Porto Heli

In July and August the International Culture Festival of Porto Heli takes place so it’s a good time to be in the area. The festival occurs at the Manessis Estate and includes performances, art exhibitions and workshops.
