Dalaman is in Turkey's Muğla Province, where the cuisines of the Aegean and Mediterranean meet. The area is known for fresh local ingredients, olive oil, herbs, seafood, citrus fruits, and traditional village cooking.
FOOD
Çökertme Kebabı – Thin strips of beef served over crispy shoestring potatoes with garlic yogurt and tomato sauce. Although it originated in nearby Bodrum, it's a regional favorite throughout Muğla.
Gözleme – Freshly rolled flatbread cooked on a griddle and filled with cheese, spinach, herbs, potatoes, or minced meat. Village breakfast cafés often make them to order.
Stuffed zucchini flowers (Kabak Çiçeği Dolması) – Delicate zucchini blossoms filled with herbed rice and served with olive oil, especially in summer.
Keşkek – A slow-cooked dish of wheat and meat, traditionally prepared for weddings and festivals.
WINE AND DRINKS
Öküzgözü – Fruity, medium-bodied red.
Boğazkere – Full-bodied, rich red with firm tannins.
Kalecik Karası – Elegant, lighter red with cherry notes.
Narince – Fresh, floral white.
Emir – Crisp, mineral white.
Turkey's national spirit is Rakı, an anise-flavoured drink often called "lion's milk" because it turns milky white when mixed with water.
The most common Turkish beers are Efes Pilsen – The most widely available lager and Bomonti – A slightly fuller-bodied lager.
