Hydra’s beaches are mostly small, stony coves set against a dramatic rocky coastline, with clear water that turns deep blue almost immediately because the island drops steeply into the sea.

Closest to town is Spilia, a rocky swimming platform carved into the cliffs where people sunbathe on flat stones and dive straight into deep water. A short walk west brings you to Avlaki, a narrow cove tucked between rocks, quieter and more sheltered than the harbor area. Continuing along the coastal path you reach Kamini, where the tiny fishing port opens onto a small pebbly beach with calm, shallow water and a relaxed, village-like feel.

Farther along the same path lies Vlychos, one of the island’s most inviting spots, with smooth pebbles, clear water, and a gentler landscape that feels more open than the steep cliffs near town. Beyond Vlychos is Plakes, a peaceful stretch of coast with a more natural atmosphere and fewer people, especially outside peak season.

On the opposite side of the island, Agios Nikolaos stands out as one of Hydra’s most beautiful beaches, set in a wide cove with turquoise water and a sense of seclusion; it’s reached by water taxi or a long hike. Mandraki, east of the main harbor, offers a larger bay with a mix of sand and pebbles and a more spacious feel, making it one of the few places on Hydra where the landscape opens up.

Hydra’s beaches are scattered and varied, but all share the same crystal‑clear water and the sense of being tucked into the island’s rugged terrain.
