They can be expensive but If you need to be somewhere in a hurry or out of hours. then they serve a purpose.
BUS SERVICE
The main bus operator in Kalamata is ΚΤΕΛ for intercity routes, and KTEL ASTIKON GRAMMON KALAMATAS for local city buses.
You can use them for:
- Routes between Kalamata and cities like Athens, Sparta, Pylos, Koroni, Kardamyli, and other Peloponnese destinations.
- Local buses inside Kalamata, including the seafront, hospital, university, and nearby villages
There are many different lines to take, mainly in the north of the island where the major capitals are located.
Bus services can be busy in the high season but are very safe. Timetables vary during low and high seasons.
Busy season is July and August. From March to June the bus services start to increase and are changeable, so check the timetables. From September to October, after summer, there may be changes in the timetables, so it is always best to check first.
Most bus stations are fairly basic and central in each town, except for Heraklion, which has two regional bus stations for KTEL buses.
