Agistri has three main settlements that function as its towns/resorts: Skala, Megalochori (Milos), and Limenaria. These are the only true villages on the island; everything else is a small area or beach zone.
Skala — The Main Resort Town
Skala is the island’s primary tourist resort, located on the northeast coast. It has the largest beach, most hotels, tavernas, bars, and the island’s liveliest atmosphere.
Key features
Long sandy beach with shallow water
Most of the island’s hotels and beach bars
Ferry connection from Piraeus (via fast boats)
Nearby areas: Skliri (a small coastal neighborhood leading to Halikiada Beach)
Best for: nightlife, families, easy access, beach holidays.
Megalochori (Milos) — The Capital
Megalochori is the traditional main village and the administrative center of Agistri. It is quieter than Skala but still has shops, tavernas, and the main port for the regular ferry.
Key features
Traditional stone houses and narrow streets
Main port for the slower ferry from Piraeus
More local atmosphere
Close to the pine forest and hiking routes
Best for: authentic village feel, quieter stays, local life.
Limenaria — The Quiet Village
Limenaria is a small, peaceful village on the southwest side of the island. It is the least developed and most traditional of the three.
Key features
Very quiet, rural atmosphere
Close to Aponisos and Mariza—two of the island’s most beautiful swimming spots
Best for: nature lovers, total relaxation, off‑the‑beaten‑path stays.
Other Named Areas (Not Villages)
These are not towns or villages but are often mentioned as “resort areas”:
Skliri — a small coastal zone between Skala and Halikiada
Aponisos — private coastal area with turquoise waters
Dragonera — forested beach area on the west side
Mariza — rocky swimming spot near Limenaria
Metochi — small residential area between Skala and Megalochori
