Carry some cash: Smaller restaurants, taxis, and shops may prefer it
Cards are accepted everywhere in Cyprus, but it's always handy to have some Euros too.

Meals are relaxed and unhurried—service is slower on purpose
Dinner is typically late (after 8:30 pm)
It’s common to receive a complimentary dessert or drink after your meal
Sharing dishes (meze style) is very typical
Tipping
Not mandatory but appreciated
5–10% in restaurants is standard
Round up for taxis and cafés
Weather & Sun
The sun is very strong, especially in summer
Use high SPF, wear hats, drink plenty of water and try to take shade where you can.
Avoid heavy activity between 12 pm and 4 pm
Water
Water is find to drink from the tap in Cyprus. However if you prefer, bottled water is cheap and found easily at supermarkets, bars, supermarkets and kiosks.
Transport
Roads can be narrow in the villages and mountain areas.
Drive carefully and expect local drivers to be confident and fast
Public transport is good in Cyprus, and an easy way to get around each resort.
Beaches
There are no private beaches in Cyprus. All are open to everyone. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available on most beaches at a set fee. Some beaches may offer upgraded facilities and services with a higher fee.
Beaches on the West of the island are more shingly, so suitable footwear may be preferred.
Respect flags and warning signs for sea conditions
Culture & Etiquette
A simple “Kalimera” (good morning) or “Kalispera” (good afternoon/evening) goes a long way
Dress appropriately when visiting churches and monasteries (cover shoulders/knees)
Cypriots are very friendly and welcoming—expect warm hospitality
Safety
Cyprus is very safe for tourists but don't do anything that you wouldn't do at home !
Look after your belongings in busy public areas such as on the beach and busy shopping streets
When using a taxi, agree the fare beforehand
Practical Tips
Toilet paper often goes in a bin, not the toilet (older plumbing systems)
Small shops may close during the afternoon (siesta time) and reopen later
Pharmacies close between 13.30 and 15.30 on Mondays, Tuesdays , Thursdays and Fridays. On Wednesdays and Saturdays they are open till 13.30 only. Sunday they are closed. There are always emergency chemists available in all areas.
