Getting around Tilos is fairly simple, but transport is limited compared with larger Greek islands. Most visitors either rent a scooter/car or combine buses with walking.
Best ways to get around
Scooter or small motorbike
This is the most popular option and probably the best balance for Tilos.
Good for:
- Beaches like Eristos and Plaka
- Exploring abandoned villages
- Flexible sunset stops
- Short island distances
Roads are generally quiet and traffic is minimal.
Small rental car
Best if:
- You’re traveling as a couple/group
- You want air conditioning
- You plan to visit remote beaches or monasteries
- You’re carrying luggage or beach gear
A small car is enough; roads are narrow but manageable.
Local bus
The bus service is very reliable, connecting the main points of the island throughout the day and all for 2.50Euro each journey. Ask your hotel reception or representative for the timetable, its runs roughly every hour connecting;
- Livadia
- Megalo Chorio
- Eristos
- Agios Antonios
Walking & hiking
Tilos is one of the best small Greek islands for hiking. Old stone trails connect:
- villages
- monasteries
- beaches
- abandoned settlements
You can realistically combine:
- bus + hiking
- scooter + short walks
- beach hopping on foot in some areas
Bring good shoes if you plan to explore beyond the main roads.
Boat taxis
In summer, small boats sometimes run from Livadia to remote beaches such as:
- Lethra
- Tholos
- Skafi
