Legal Requirements

A very important part of ensuring that your wedding plans abroad run smoothly is to ensure that you have all the correct documents with you. This little bit of paperwork can make all the difference so please take a look at the table below to see a guide. Legal document requirements will vary from destination to destination. Cyprus
Residency before ceremony - 3-5 working days (Mon-Fri)
A4 full birth certificates
Affidavit/statutory declaration
*please note if you are not a British passport holder you must seek advice from your Embassy concerning documentation and permission to marry.
If divorced - Decree absolute
If widowed - Spouse's death certificate and marriage certificate
If adopted - Proof of adoption
If you have changed your name - Official documentation to prove this
To take to resort - *above documents *copies of witnesses' passports *certificate of baptism (for religious weddings)
Greece
Residency before ceremony - 7-9 days
A4 full birth certificates
Certificate of no impediment
*please note if you are not a British passport holder you must seek advice from your Embassy concerning documentation and permission to marry.
If divorced - Decree absolute
If widowed - Spouse's death certificate and marriage certificate
If adopted - Proof of adoption
If you have changed your name - Official documentation to prove this
Legalisation of documents by Foreign and commonwealth office/ Consulate
To take to resort - *above documents *copies of witnesses' passports
Renewal of vows Marriage certificate and birth certificates
* Please take valid passports to travel with along with your documents and travel itinerary. All documents must be original (except copies of the witnesses' passports). Please note that important legal formalities upon arrival will take place to obtain marriage license (go to Town Hall).
