Afandou is an attractive traditional Greek village surrounded by beautiful countryside. Surrounded by orchards and olive groves, Afandou is one of the largest villages on the island, and its name means "invisible". This is due to the fact that the village was positioned behind a hill away from the beach to protect it from pirates. Evening entertainment revolves around the many traditional tavernas and a few bars in the village. For a complete change of pace and scenery, the vibrant and more hectic resort of Faliraki is only a short distance away.
Who holidays in Afandou?
This resort mainly attracts families and couples who like to relax during the day whilst being in a central location. Whether you want a lively time or an authentic Greek experience, you will find it here.
Afandou is located on on the northeastern coast of Rhodes, 20 kms from Rhodes airport. Holidays in Afandou are based in a large resort that lies a mile from the coast hidden amongst the olive groves and fruit trees. Afandou is one of the the island's oldest villages with much of the traditional Greek charm and character still on view.
Afandou is situated on the Mediterranean east coast of Rhodes and has easy access to 7 kilometres of beach. The beach consists mainly of small pebbles, which are continuously being removed by the aggregates industry, leaving behind a lovely sandy beach. The water is clear and shallow, and because of its position on the Mediterranean side of the island, very calm. This palm tree flanked beach regularly wins the Blue Flag award.
Traganou: is name of the beginning of Afandou Beach. Very clean and pebbled with a couple of shallow caves to explore. A taverna on the beach provides refreshment making it an ideal spot.
Once a renowned carpet-making centre in Greece, Afandou now relies on tourism and administration as its main industries. However, it is still possible to purchase beautiful traditionally made carpets from the many workshops dotted around the area. There is a notable absence of large chains in the resort but this is made up for with a bountiful selection of colourful street markets and souvenir shops selling everything from traditional lace to ceramics.
