Evia is Greece’s second-largest island and offers an enormous variety of excursions, from mountain trekking and thermal springs to island cruises, waterfalls, monasteries and traditional villages. Because the island stretches for more than 175 km, excursions differ greatly between northern, central and southern Evia.

Northern Evia Excursions

Northern Evia is famous for forests, mountain scenery and thermal springs. One of the most popular excursions is to Edipsos, a historic spa town known since antiquity for its hot springs. Visitors often combine thermal bathing with seaside walks and boat trips along the coast.

Nearby excursions include:

Drimona Waterfalls, surrounded by chestnut and pine forests
The mountain village of Steni
Limni, a picturesque harbour town with neoclassical architecture
Boat trips to the Lichadonisia islets, often called the “Greek Seychelles”

Excursion boats to the volcanic Lichadonisia islands depart from the northwest coast and are popular for swimming, snorkeling and wildlife viewing

Central Evia Excursions

The central part of the island combines beaches, mountains and historical sites. Excursions from Chalkida, the island’s capital, often focus on:

The Euripus Strait and its unusual tidal phenomenon
Day trips into Mount Dirfys
Hiking through gorges and forest trails
Visits to monasteries and traditional inland villages

Mount Dirfys is one of Greece’s most important hiking areas, with excursions available for trekking, canyoning and nature photography.

Southern Evia Excursions

Southern Evia is wilder and more mountainous, known for dramatic coastlines, remote beaches and traditional villages. Excursions here often include:

Cape Kafireas (Cavo D’Oro)
Karystos and its Venetian castles
The Dimosari Gorge hike
Beach trips to secluded southern coves

Karystos serves as the main base for outdoor excursions in the south, including jeep safaris and hiking tours into Mount Ochi. One of the island’s most intriguing excursions is to the ancient Dragon Houses of Ochi, mysterious megalithic stone structures high in the mountains.

Cultural and Food Excursions

Evia also offers wine and gastronomy excursions, particularly around Kymi and central mountain villages. Olive oil tastings, local cheese production and seafood tavernas are central to many guided tours. Religious excursions to monasteries include:

Monastery of Saint David
Galataki Monastery
Monastery of Osios Ioannis Rossos
