The main sightseeing highlights in Poros are the Clock Tower, the Sanctuary of Poseidon, the Archaeological Museum, the Russian Dockyard, and the island’s major beaches such as Askeli, Monastiri, and Vagionia.

Clock Tower of Poros

The landmark of the island, located at the highest point of Poros Town. It offers panoramic views over the strait, Galatas, and the Saronic Gulf. The climb is short and one of the most characteristic experiences on the island.

Sanctuary of Poseidon

An important ancient site on Kalavria, dating to the 6th century BC. It was the center of the Calaurian Amphictyony and is historically linked to the orator Demosthenes. The site sits on a quiet plateau surrounded by countryside.

Poros Archaeological Museum

Located near the port, this museum houses finds from Troizina, Methana, and Poros itself. Exhibits include pottery, inscriptions, and items from the Sanctuary of Poseidon.

Russian Dockyard (Russian Bay)

A preserved 19th‑century naval station built by the Russian fleet. The bay is scenic, with clear water and a partly organized beach. It is both a historical site and a swimming spot.

Monastiri Beach

A quiet, sheltered beach near the Zoodochos Pigi Monastery. Known for calm water and a peaceful setting. One of the island’s most relaxing swimming areas.

Askeli Beach

The largest and most organized beach on Poros. It offers sunbeds, cafés, and water sports. Ideal for families and visitors who want facilities.

Vagionia Beach

A northern bay with deep blue water, popular for snorkeling. Less developed and more natural than the southern beaches.
