Andros is one of the most diverse islands in the Cyclades for excursions. Unlike the drier, more barren islands farther south, Andros is mountainous and green, with waterfalls, valleys, monasteries, traditional villages and an extensive network of hiking trails. Excursions on the island range from boat trips and diving adventures to cultural tours and mountain hikes.

Hiking Excursions

Andros is considered one of Greece’s top hiking islands. The island has more than 300 km of marked walking routes, many restored through the Andros Routes project, and it is the only island in Europe certified by the European Ramblers Association. Trails pass through forests, streams, stone bridges, watermills and mountain villages.

Some of the best-known hiking excursions include:

The route from Chora to the Monastery of Panachrantou
The hike to Achla Beach through a lush gorge
Walks around Menites, Apoikia and the Pythara waterfalls
Mountain trails around Vourkoti and Korthi

*Please take all necessary health and safety precautions if you are planning a hike/walk.

Boat trips are among the most popular excursions from Andros, especially because many beaches and coves are difficult to reach by road. Cruises typically explore the rugged eastern coastline, sea caves and isolated beaches such as Achla, Vlychada and Grias to Pidima.

Cultural and Village Excursions

Many visitors explore Andros by car or guided minibus tours. Excursions often combine traditional villages, monasteries and museums in one route.

Popular cultural stops include:

Chora (Andros Town), known for its neoclassical mansions and museums
The Goulandris Museum of Contemporary Art
Menites village and its natural springs
The Monastery of Panachrantou
Paleopolis, the ancient capital of Andros
Stenies and Apoikia, famous for stone houses and greenery

Organised island tours and sightseeing excursions are available through the small tour operators in Batsi and Chora

Diving and Snorkeling Excursions

The waters around Andros are known for underwater caves, reefs and shipwrecks. Diving centres organise beginner dives, snorkeling tours and advanced scuba excursions.

Cycling and Driving Excursions

Because Andros is large and mountainous, many travellers rent scooters, motorcycles or cars to explore independently. Scenic driving excursions connect Gavrio, Batsi, Chora and Ormos Korthiou through dramatic mountain landscapes and coastal viewpoints.
