Magganari Beach is quieter and ideal for relaxing and swimming.

Sunbeds and umbrellas are available at many beaches, usually with a fee or minimum spend.

Beach shoes are recommended for smaller or rocky coves.

Meals are relaxed and unhurried — dining is part of the Greek holiday experience.

Dinner is usually eaten later in the evening, often after 8:30 pm.

Ios is generally very safe for tourists, however please take care of your belongings in busy nightlife areas and ports.

Take extra care near cliffs, steps and uneven pathways, particularly after dark.

Toilet paper is often placed in a bin rather than flushed due to older plumbing systems.

English is widely spoken in tourist areas.

Mosquito repellent can be useful during warmer evenings.

Many shops and businesses may operate reduced hours on Sundays outside of peak season.
